OSU study targets pneumonia in calves through mycoplasma research
Oregon State University researchers led by John Schmitz study mycoplasmas linked to pneumonia in beef and dairy calves. They isolated over 200 strains from 100 infected calves and healthy controls, aiming to identify prevalent types and develop a vaccine to reduce calf deaths and losses in beef and dairy operations.

Northwest ranchers face higher grazing fees in 1976
Oregon and Washington ranchers will pay higher grazing fees on BLM lands starting March 1 as the rate rises about 50 percent from 1975. The new price is 1.51 dollars per animal unit month AUM on most lands and 1.62 dollars per AUM in western Oregon. About 2,000 ranchers are affected, grazing roughly 263 069 cattle and 29 000 sheep on BLM lands for about five months annually.

Southwest Oregon jazz festival to feature University of Oregon groups
The seventh annual South west Oregon Music Educator's Association jazz festival takes place at Myrtle Crest School all day Saturday Feb 7 with a 7 30 p m concert in the MC gym. Twelve bands perform from 9 a m to 4 30 p m with clinicians including Charles Dowd and local specialists. Moon from Myrtle Point will join the University of Oregon Jazz Ensemble for the evening show. The event includes bands from Coos Curry counties and nearby schools and is open to the public.

Wild Horse Roundup Planned on Alderers Creek Head
Dan Williams Forest Supervisor of the Malheur National Forest announced a roundup of excess wild horses on Alderers Creek Wild Horse Head during February March and April this year. The plan aims to place horses with private parties with applications available at Bear Valley District Ranger's Office in John Day Oregon. The Malheur Forest works with BLM Oregon Department of Agriculture and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to control wild horse numbers in Alderers Creek.
