Senior class presents The Curious Savage a three act comedy at the high school gym tonight Wednesday and Thursday. Curtain at 8 PM admission adults 75 cents students 50 cents grade school 25 cents.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's Club announces a merchandise shoot at the trap grounds next Sunday starting at 10 a.m. and continuing all day. Ammunition and cats will be available, and all shooters, members or not, are urged to attend.
The Myrtle Point Herald apologizes for missing the open house honoring L D Felsheim editor of the Bandon World for 50 years as editor and 60 years as printer. Friends and family celebrated Nat ional Printing Week and Benjamin Franklin’s 250th birthday with tributes to his long career and influence in Coos country journalism.
Myrtle Point Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts marked National Boy Scout Week with a Court of Honor at the Methodist church Friday evening. Tenderfoot badges were awarded to John Driscoll George Barkley Donald Isom Derry Knight Roy Baker and Thomas Jackson. Second Class badges and Service Stars went to John Todd Donald Wagner Tim Wooley Ben Brodie Darwin Noyes Larry Neugart and Daniel Noyes.
National Red Cross reports $17,385 23 spent for Coos County flood relief with about $5,000 more to be distributed, totaling over $22,000. Mrs. Clara Fay, national Red Cross representative, spoke to the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce at its noon meeting about relief resources.
The final tally for Coos County lists 15 064 residents ages 4 through 19, up 766 from last year. By district the counts include Coos Bay 6 009, Coquille 1 921, North Bend 2 220, Myrtle Point 1 279, Bandon 1 246, Sunny Hill 369, Powers 404, Bridge 293, Charleston 362, Lakeside 289, Broadbent 167, Arago 114, Riverton 147, Parkersburg 37, Riverside 15, Fairview 96, McKinley 45, Dora 54, Etaska 37, Sitkum 52.
Coquille Post 36 will host District 10 members February 11 at 8 p.m. at the annual conference with visits from Jack Larson Springfield department commander and other dignitaries. Attendees meet 6 to 7 30 p.m. forregistration and lunch at the Coquille Legion club rooms before sessions at the Coquille Eagles Hall.
Wendell Wyatt GOP state chairman rebukes Sen Neuberger for misrepresenting Sen Morse and cites Congressional Record entries to show Morse was not the chief sponsor. Wyatt challenges Neuberger to reread articles and verify facts against Frontier magazine statements and official records.
Adults in Coos County are urged to register if not already. Those moving precincts must re register 30 days before the election. In Myrtle Point registration sites include City Hall and several local businesses listing names and offices.
Anglers are alerted that new winter deadlines take effect this Saturday February 11 for steelhead fishing on the Coquille River system. The East Fork at Pride, Middle Fork near Bandy Creek, and South Fork at Siskiyou National Forest boundary near Standleyville will implement specified closures and opening times.
Stockholders with 196 of 254 shares present at the Coos County Fair Association annual meeting re-elected Sam Dement as president for a third term. The board also re-elected Lee Barklow as vice president Harold Claro as secretary manager and Ann Roush as treasurer. By-laws were updated to move the annual meeting to the last Saturday in October and to align with current conditions.
City council voted to issue 135000 dollars in bonds for a southern sewer main. Engineer Roy Erichsen outlined plans with bids to be advertised by April. Discussion included Harmony Flats annexation election, taxi franchise to H S Peter, and a designated no parking zone at Eighth and Harris streets to keep school buses clear.
The World Day of Prayer will be observed locally on Friday afternoon February 17 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Interchurch Lionship sponsors the service and invites the general public to attend this sacred event.
Mr and Mrs Bill Kirstein acquire the Greyhound Bus Depot in Centralia Washington through Kirstein’s Bus Service Inc. New proprietors plan to operate the facility under the Kirstein name and expand service offerings in the region.
The Coos Curry Pioneer Historical Association will hold a semi annual potluck dinner at noon on Saturday February 11 at the Community building in Coquille. All are asked to bring their own table service. The program includes community singing led by Clara Stauff, a violin and piano duet by Mr and Mrs Walter Laird, a reading by Mapril Easton, and introductions of pioneers by Wanda Wilcox with the Welcoming and food receiving committee headed by Oscar [last name not shown].
