Johnston, a bus driver from District No. 41, was off duty and carrying one arm injury when his Star touring car left the road on the Resburg highway south of Myrtle Point. He shielded a little girl named Abbott as the car rolled, saving her from harm while the vehicle wrecked. He sustained cuts to an arm and a crushed thumb.
