Hollis Mast of McKinley rook reelected unanimously to serve as president of the Coos County Livestock Association at the annual meeting in the Community Building at Coquille last Saturday. Officers elected with Mr Mast included Frank Rema vict.
First Aid classes start at city hall on Tuesday February 11 at 7 00 pm. Refresher courses for cardholders cover nine hours and remain valid for three years with updated methods. Organizers include Ron Endicott Civil Defense supervisor and secretary Dorothy Guernin with local officials from Myrtle Point Bandon Coquille and Gaylord.
An opinion piece laments the space race while urging tax reform. It attacks the federal income tax and calls for citizen activism, letters to lawmakers, and Hoover Commission proposals to curb wasteful spending. Circuit Judge Robert C. Belloni filed his declaration of candidacy to regain Position No. 2 in the fifteenth judicial district covering Coos and Curry counties. Appointed by Gov. Robert D Holmes and sworn in July 2, 1957, Belloni is a Coos County native with degrees from the University of Oregon and a history of public service and professional memberships.
Announcement states that Mr and Mrs A J Adams have purchased the Arago cheese factory, previously operated by the former owner. The change becomes effective January 1 and is described as a modernization of the plant.
Arago Cooperative Cheese Association transfers management to Mr Adams effective January 1 1958. Adams, active manager for two years, will run The Arago Cheese Factory with a capacity of 45000 pounds of milk daily and a staff of four to seven year round. Output mostly sold to Rumiano Bros Willows California.
Al Slagle chair of the State Highway Interim Committee spoke at the Coquille Lions Farmers-Loggers banquet about Highway 42 in Coos County. He noted funds cannot be allocated until 1959 but suggested a possible start in 1958 and praised Housewives For 42 for boosting highway improvement efforts. Rep Clarence Barton served as toastmaster as about 250 attendees heard the remarks.
Pacific Power and Light will spend nearly 1.5 million dollars in 1958 to expand and upgrade electric facilities in the Coos Bay district. Head, Coquille manager, announced Wednesday about a major transmission line project of 800000 dollars and distribution lines, transformers, poles, and voltage upgrades costing 400000 dollars. The program also includes a new 350000 watt generating capacity addition to meet growing load.
Clyde R. Anderson, Myrtle Point businessman, died last Saturday at Mast hospital. Funeral held today at 2 at Schroeders chapel. He was a Methodist. survived by mother Anna Anderson of Inglewood California and sister Ellen Swearingen of Inglewood.
Mr and Mrs Don Harris and family from Medford are noted aloft in town during the week with a brief sighting and local chatter about their activities.
The Wings Over Jordan choir, a 37 voice radio famed Negro ensemble, will perform at Myrtle Crest gym on Monday February 10 at 7 30 p m. The event is sponsored by the Inter Church Fellowship as a gesture of goodwill toward all races.
Coos county golfers are invited to participate in a Blind Bogey nine hole tournament at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club this weekend. Entry is 50 cents with half going to the local club treasury and half to prize winners.
The Boy Scout building gains a fresh look funded by proceeds from the Christmas tree pick up drive and prior drives. Mrs. Lloyd Eggers and Mrs. Elton Edlunds made the curtains while Lloyd and Alton installed them, greatly improving the interior appearance and acoustics.
Sergeant James C Gim Thompson of the Empire Police Department announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for Sheriff of Company. He said he is not a politician but followed the insistence of many friends.
Coos Curry Phameer Association hosts a potluck and meeting in Grange Hall at 416 East Fourteenth Street Coquille Saturday afternoon. Henry A. Schreider will present some motions. Everyone is invited.
