School District 41 Tests Show Pupils Versus National Norms

Death of Joseph G Beale longtime Coos Bay logger
Joseph G Beale 73 longtime Powes resident died February 1 in Myrtle Point. He was born January 15, 1893 in Lowell Massachusetts and served in World War I. Survived by wife Doris, a daughter Doris Magnuson of Coos Bay, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. son Jack was killed in World War II. Private services Thursday at Schroeder's Chapel with Rev Reintti officiating. Cremation planned. Memorial gifts requested to Church of God Powers.

Hotel Work Starts Monday on New Myrtle Building
Work begins Monday to remove the old Guerin Hotel section of the Myrtle Hotel and construct a new masonry block at a $45,000 cost. Kruse and Fitch, Coos Bay architects, sponsor the project, owned by Wind Laird. Plans include a banquet room storage area on the core and eight modern hotel units on the top floor.
