Tourists Boost Oregon Economy but Spur Limited Growth
A Battelle OSU study for the Oregon Highway Commission finds out of state visitors spent about 4.6 billion in 1972 statewide, supporting roughly 64,000 jobs but contributing little to permanent population growth. In-state tourism exceeds out-of-state spending, and Oregon residents spend substantial sums out of state, narrowing net tourism benefits.
