Oregon PUC grants West Coast Telephone Co a sole service area across six regions in Multnomah Washington Clackamas Yamhill Columbia and other counties, excluding a contested zone near High Mountain Sheep Dam in Wallowa County. Areas A through F include Vernonia Forest Grove Hillsboro Beaverton Gresham Sandy and Coos Bay among exchanges serving about 40000 customers.
The opening meeting of the city planning commission elected Dean Mason as president and Homer Peterson as vice president. Members drew terms ending in 1967, 1948, 1969, and 1970. Dean Mason appointed Art Motz to study the Land Use and Traffic Plan and report next meeting.
Thrift Grocery will close Jan. 1, owner Hamilton Thrift announced. All merchandise is on sale. Thrift has run groceries in Myrtle Point since 1938, with WWII service in the Firepwan theater and coast artillery. He started with A. G. Thrift in the Seaman Building on Spruce, then came to Myrtle Port in 1932. He operated stores in Bandon and Gold Beach as well.
The Inter-Church Fellowship elected Richard Munson as president and Wesley Shultz as vice president at a Monday evening dinner in the Methodist church attended by 90 people. Mrs. Victor Stevens was named secretary-treasurer. the program featured Myrtle Crest school singers directed by Robert Zimbleman and a Christmas film shown by Rev. Gerald Nelson.
The RLDS church at 563 C street will present a Christmas program at 7 30 p.m. Sunday December 19 under Mrs Tom Coffman. It features The Characters of Christmas Speak recitations by primary kindergarten and junior classes and choir selections. The public is invited.
The Myrtle Point Christian church schedules a Christmas service Sunday evening at 7 p.m. on December 198. The congregation will sing carols and the choir will perform. A social room reception follows with children receiving treats. Mrs Ward Evans leads the children in a brief program during Sunday school. Christmas offerings will be collected.
Under Coach Doug Mack the varsity wrestlers defeated Douglas Trojans 47 to 15 last Saturday. Cat matmen won eight of 11 matches with four pins in under two minutes and Stidham and Barklow won by forfeits. JVs also dominated with six pins in seven matches. A women’s bowling association meeting is set for 7:30 pm Friday Dec 17 at Lafayette Bowl and members are urged to attend.
