Derek White named TV Systems manager in Myrtle Point after serving as vice president last year. He plans a local business office serving Myrtle Point and Powers with records deposited here, expanding Southern County staff. White, with Oregon background, has ties to Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce.
The Myrtle Point mayor names a planning commission including Beckham Ian, Bill Winningham, Al Hall, Charles Hew, Homer Peterson, Art Motz, Dean Mason and Victor Bushnell. Discussions covered a continuous counseling program in all areas of school from kindergarten through college. C en L Weaver, superintendent of guidance services for the state department of education, led a debate on public Law 89 10 to provide funds for weaknesses in school programs.
The high school offers credit for vocational and academic courses this week. Jim King endorses the program as a boost to student pathways.
In the early hours Sunday thieves entered the Elks lodge through a small window in the golf pro shop and stole coins from a cigarette machine a juke box and from the Christmas basket donation jar and cash registers. The registers were pried open and authorities from the sheriff s office and state police are investigating.
Supervisor J R Philbrick of the Siskiyou National Forest announces a Powers Ranger District timber sale. About 14,000,008 board feet of Doug fir, Port Orford cedar, western hemlock and other conifers are offered with advertised and bid prices. Estimated value is $341,103. total bid value reached $862,663 with Georgiaie Corporation as bidder.

The Coos County Board of Commissioners created a 13 member County Park and Recreation Department to advise on parks. Members serve four year terms with initial terms one to four years. The board promotes and maintains county parks but cannot contract or spend county funds.
Delegates representing over 45,000 members of the American Angus association voted unanimously at the annual Chicago meeting to issue associate memberships to owners of commercial Angus herds. The move aims to solidify the interests of all Angus cattlemen nationwide.
Pullen, son of Mr and Mrs Darwin Pullen of Myrtle Point, is among the pledge officers at Linfield College this semester. The freshman serves as secretary treasurer of the Delta Psi Delta fraternity pledge class and will lead pledge activities until full membership is achieved.
Myrtle Point chamber of commerce approves Clement wrecking yard relocation to Highway 42 three miles north as county commissioners weigh a new site license. Chamber had opposed the move at the present Myrtle Point location and had previously withhold a business license.
The North Pacific Division of Army Engineers announced a report unfavorable to improving the Coquille River navigation project. Brig. Gen. P. C. Hyzer said the district and division engineers will refer the report to the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors in Washington, D. C. The 1966 Senate Public Works Committee resolution authorized the study. five rent plans were reviewed with benefits not exceeding costs. Written views may be sent to the board.
Police Chief Lewis Floyd urged retailers to watch for shoplifters amid the holiday rush. He cited shoplifting as the nation’s fastest growing larceny with a nine percent rise over five years and TO4473 cases last year involving $5 million in goods.
A work group advising the Social Security Administration discussed Medicare participation rules. Beginning January 1967 hospital extended care coverage includes post hospital care in skilled nursing and extended care facilities for eligible beneficiaries, with a 30 day stay capped at $50 per day per illness spell. Extended care coverage to follow six months later to allow nursing homes to meet standards. The Sept. 6 session will report findings, with December meetings in Baltimore and late December discussions on benefits.
