Home insulation cuts energy use in Willamette Valley homes
Oregon State University economist James B. Fitch notes insulation upgrades can cut heating energy use by 20 to 25 percent in a typical Willamette Valley home. Adding underfloor insulation accounts for most savings, with payback in two to four years, while ceiling insulation payback varies by existing insulation and house age. Cooperation from homeowners could notably reduce residential energy use statewide.
