George F. Hughes succeeds E J Schneider as chief of the volunteer fire department. Mrs Belle Whitaker resigns from the Myrtle Point library board. Both resignations accepted as the council addresses city services and a new sewer project plans.

Woman Suffers Arm Fracture and Ankle Sprain After Fall

Mrs FE W Jones, about 60, from south of the city, fell on the steps at a grade school Friday and sustained a broken left arm above the wrist and a badly sprained ankle. She was treated at Maat hospital and later sent to the home of her daughter Mrs W Fite for recovery.

Whopper Salmon Hooks Big Catch At Pik River

Myrtle Point boy John Dickson landed a chinook salmon 62 inches long and 47 pounds after an hour and twenty minutes of light tackle fishing under the bridge on the Pik river. Other local anglers also pulled in salmon but many were badly battered and thrown back due to poor flesh quality.

Myrtle Point independents battled Arago high school lads to a 18-18 tie at halftime. Arago pulled away in the second half to win the contest with strong play.

Miss Wilda Barker of Myrtle Pointpriv ate secretary to the president serves as faculty advisor and leads the Beacon issue. The Beacon is published by Eastern Oregon Normal school students at LaGrande and Miss Barker notes LaGrande is a marvelous but very cold town. She plans to spend Christmas with her parents Mr and Mrs Clyde Barker in Myrtle Point.

Character Building Classes Close On Tuesday Evening

Lewellen Car Wreck En Route to Marshfield

Grade Sumerlin drove the Lewellen car to Marshfield with Mrs Tom Sumerlin and Miss Margaret Slagle. They were struck by a caravan driven by Jack Dashney, tearing fenders running board and hub caps. All escaped major injury and the car is at L. H. Pearce garage.

Corn Husking Contest Draws Big Attendance Near Grundy Center

A letter from Iowa to Mrs. G. E Hamilton reports the national corn husking contest near Grundy Center. Sixteen contestants competed and Welch of Illinois won. About 60,000 people attended with a 560 acre field packed with cars and 22 concessions selling food. A hog was exhibited and a half ton of hamburger plus doughnuts were baked on site, one concession earning $1600.
