Shrine club donates nine thousand to Shriners hospital

Ray C. Collier of Myrtle Point presented a $9,000 check to Don Kenyon of Klamath Falls for the Shriners hospital for crippled children in Portland. Proceeds from the 1955 Myrtle Bowl at Coos Bay were given at the Klamath Falls Shrine ceremonial, likely the largest such gift from a Hillah Temple affiliated Shrine club.

Myrtle Point council to submit a $135 000 bond issue to property owners in January for sewer system expansion to spur housing projects in the south section. Officials warn the housing crisis will worsen without adequate facilities and sewer access. Continued on Page Four.

Harriman Attacks Ike Aide in Northwest Power Fight

New York Governor Averell Harriman toured the Northwest amid 1956 presidential bid talk. He accused the Eisenhower administration of public resource giveaways over Hell’s Canyon dam and called the GOP compromised by monopoly. He urged Oregon voters to back a Democratic Congress and president.

Sackett Telegram Stirs Coos County News War

The Myrtle Point Herald displays a fifteen hundred word telegram from Sheldon F. Sackett publisher of the Coos Bay Times from San Francisco alleging corruption in Coos county. Al Wyld named president of the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce after unanimous election at the annual meeting held at the Myrtle hotel. Keith Schroeder Appointed As Page In U S Senate

Elton Schroeder announces his son Keith Schroeder has been chosen as a page boy for the U S Senate in Washington D C during the 84th Congress. Keith will travel by Dec 29 and report to the Chief Page before Congress opens. He will attend Library of Congress school at 6:30 each morning. This honor marks the second Oregon boy in 25 years.
