A Myrtle Point area group tied to hunting and fishing aims to erect a clubhouse for members to gather discuss topics of importance and share tales of game pursuit. The project seeks broad support from the local sportsmen fraternity and promises a hangout for camaraderie and welfare of wildlife.
A Des Moines man Lets Carrizales and his large blended family, including a 2 day old granddaughter born Saturday, are described amid a wild tale of many children from multiple wives. Separately, a spike buck rammed into a city area, was killed, with officials noting limited casualties and an ongoing inquiry.
Hammack led Myrtle Point High with 19 points as the Bobcats defeated Coquille 50 to 40 after trailing 23 28 at halftime. The team pulled away in the third with a burst led by Hammack and teammates. Myrtle Point followed with a 53 26 win over Florence and set upcoming games against Ashland and Rogue River.
A Bridge gathering celebrated Matt Bellew turning 90 with an open house hosted by Hay Bartley. Attendees included Zella Wigant Ardyce Nall and many friends as gifts and well wishes flowed in a community tribute to Coos County pioneer.

The Myrtle Point Bobcats host Ashland High Friday night and Rogue River High Saturday night in two strong non district tests. Junior Varsity games begin at 6 30 with varsity to follow at 8 o'clock, aiming to boost the team’s morale with challenging foes.
Mrs. Almne Vasquez and her 10 year old daughter Carol escaped injury after their car rolled on ice on a Coos Bay bridge about 6 15 am Saturday. The vehicle sustained about 300 dollars in damage and was insured. A second car nearby faced a similar fate moments earlier with unknown occupants.
The Myrtle Point Bobcats beat the Coquille Red Devils 40 to 34 in a hard fought game. Marv Hammack led Myrtle Point with key plays as the team trimmed a 28-23 halftime deficit.
Water levels slow fishing as rain delays ease. Myrtle Point derby leaders say if rains stay down after next Sunday the Coquille and tributaries should yield big Steelhead catches this weekend. Grand prize is $33.50 with weekly prizes, await hopeful anglers.
Martin Arnold delivered 43 Romney and Lincoln sheep to New Orleans for the Ecuadorian government arriving Dec 1 after an eleven day train trip from Gaylord. The journey home was uneventful with rest in New Orleans before a 14 hour flight to Cuena. A celebratory welcome was planned in Ecuador and the herd would move to humid fertile valleys along the Rio Ramba after arrival.
Guest editorial thanks Myrtle Point community for the May Pet Show. Parents, teachers, civic groups, and volunteers supplied prizes, supplies, and refreshments while the event raised 281.56 after costs of 22.10 and wholesale pop and ice cream. Mrs. Howard Whitaker, Finance Chairman.
The weekly records at Maat hospital note four newborns in Myrtle Point. Two boys and two girls are listed as residents, with parents Boris G Zinn Myrtle Point, Norman Jacobsen Heuser, Elwin A Myrtle Point, and John T Coquilla. Dates indicate late November and early December births.
Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club executive committee met at City Hall and named committees for a bond program. Certificates are a loan to the club to be redeemed later. Secretary Clarence Strong says 82006.00 worth of bonds have been sold to members to fund a new club home equal to any in the state.
Beginning Monday and continuing through next week, a Bible and citizenship course is conducted for Myrtle Point pupils. Miss Elizabeth Bluhmhardt of Elgin North Dakota and Miss Jean Greenman of Meadville Pennsylvania represent the Christian and Professional Women of the United States. Classes meet in the First Presbyterian church auditorium from 230 to 330 PM with school authorities endorsing the effort.
Christmas Seal booths will open at the post office and Security Bank with Rainbow Girls and Senior Girl Scouts in charge. Mrs Marold Rauch chairs the effort with Mrs Ralph Kring and Mrs Paul Bruer on the committee. Mail sales are strong and funds support tuberculosis prevention efforts.
Special report notes Howard Donald Caudle, a Myrtle Point high school graduate, is enrolled at the University of Southern California. USC shows 15,066 day time Trojan students this semester across 14 Southern California schools, with 3,556 pursuing graduate work.
The annual dinner dance featured trophy awards as part of the evening program. Guests enjoyed music by J Dayton and his orchestra while presentations were made for various achievements.
Rev Wilmer A Briggs reports $1067.41 raised in the recent Community Chest drive across Myrtle Point and nearby areas. Several districts are still to report, with contributions from Active Club and local churches and groups adding to the total.
At the Coos County Council of Churches annual meeting in Coquille on Sunday December 4, 56 bags of clothing were collected to aid European relief. Myrtle Point churches aided the drive and a radio program with COOS and KWRO was planned. Each church will contribute $5 to fund the effort and a centralized teacher training school was proposed. A committee was formed to advance the project. The next meeting will be January 8 at the North Bend Presbyterian Church.
The Powers town team defeated the Myrtle Point Bucks 50 to 49 in a tight showdown. Grove of Powers led with 14 points, while Kel sey and T Grove added 13 and 12. Bucks leaders were Lewellen and Walton with 16 each.
Coos Bay city council votes to approve a new bus service arrangement with a local company. The proposal includes a direct connection at a downtown hub and outlines funding and implementation steps for the Myst route.
The Myrtlewood bakery marks 15 years of service to Southern Coos County people and businesses. The owners note a new loaf labeled breed is period in quality and offered in white and whole wheat with an attractive wrapper.
The post office will stay open Saturday afternoon. The WCTU will meet Friday at two o'clock at the home of Mrs. Allen Male. Mrs. Laswell, president, reports via telephone that all members are urged to attend.
