The Myrtle Point chamber of commerce elected officers for the coming year. Nominations by the nominating committee named Jesse D Clinton as president E Cc Rarker as vice president Elton Schraede as secretary and four directors Suvertin CF EF Semport Robert Tecker John Melina. A report on Bandun harbor dredging and a proposed Powere Grants Pass road were discussed along with county budget and tax figures.

Fire alarm at Christian church ends with minor damage

Sunday morning a fire alarm summoned firemen to the Christian church where a hot stove pipe ignited a small ceiling wallpaper section. The fire department quickly controlled the blaze with only slight wallpaper damage, and Sunday school convened in minutes after the siren.

Grange Legislative Committees To Meet

Price Robison, chairman of the Pomona Myrtle Granges legislative committee, has called a meeting of subordinate granges in Curry County for Betaraay. Committees gather at 8 p.m. in Judge Thompeon’s office to review reorganizing the branch and plan the coming year’s programs.

Library Board Plans Chicken Dinner to Raise Funds

The Library Board met Monday December 3 at 2 30. They voted to hold a chicken dinner around year’s start to raise money for new books. November reports show 1749 adult books 238 childrens 20 state books total 1637 ecards issued 17 gay books 260 due on shelves 440 overdue. About 30 books were recased and 80 repairs completed in November.

A mid night chivaree for Mr and Mrs Raleigh Green (nee Kosar) featured Bucko Stoumger and a group of friends at Coquille Myrtle Point Coquille and Marshfield. Arrest results in aid for needy

Edward Rondeau was arrested December 5 for killing a deer during the closed season near Remdle to feed his family. He pleaded guilty before Justice Dodge of Myrtle Point and was fined 100 dollars with 50 dollars suspended plus costs after pleas by locals.

Independents Edge Powers In Season Opener

Schroeder's Independents beat Powers in a close contest Saturday night at Powers. Felsher led with 14 points, Roy 12, Pawne 13 as Myrtle Point fields a strong lineup of ex high school and college players. The Independents prep for a December 10 doubleheader at the junior high gym against Arago high and a local high school team.

The Coos County Shrine club will hold a dinner meeting at the North Bend hotel next Monday at 6 30 pm. The occasion includes the annual election of officers and other business. all members are urged to attend.

Eastern Star Elects Officers in Annual Installation

The Order of the Eastern Star held its annual election last night with Frieda Clausen named worthy matron Henry Mills as worthy patron Hildamae Masts associate matron Raleigh B. Greene secretary Metta Rosslow treasurer and other officers listed. After the chapter closed members socialized and played bridge with popcorn nuts and drinks. The next meeting will be a joint session with the Masons and Clare McKay to serve as installing officer.

E C Roberts and W McClement of Los Angeles partnered to buy 25 acres at Broadbent. The new owner hired T E Dickson of Myrtle Point to build a small house, and Mc Clements son will move in within a month. Orville Shields son of Sylvester and Mrs Jo Shiege, while at home after work, was found dying in the Gan room. his father had shot himself 18 months earlier. The Myrtle Point city council held its last meeting under the old administration. A. A. Schriefer chaired with McNair Dement King Brewer and Hermann present. The new mayor named Dr. O H Clarke as city attorney, though not confirmed. Ralph Kring was elected council chairman. The council approved a two dollar per day wage for all day labor.

Accidentally Shot While Investigating Chicken Thieves

Garfield Gilmore of Roseburg was seriously wounded Sunday night when a flashlight battery failed during a search for chicken thieves. He accidentally discharged a pistol, the bullet entering his leg above the knee and exiting through the kneecap. Dr H R Mast treated him and he was admitted for surgery.

Boy Earns Temporary Paralysis From Jump Injury

Six year old Dean Epperson son of R A Epperson of the bridge highway suffered a nerve injury this week after jumping from a bank to a catch in his leg The injury caused almost temporary paralysis but the boy is much improved now.
