The State Public Utilities Commission approves Mountain States Power to recover abnormal steam cost rises through a 20 percent surcharge on four December billings and ongoing until excess costs are recovered. The commission will monitor normal energy costs and require monthly reports detailing surcharge revenue and inter-company pool charges.
Myrtle Point Bobcats begin 1952-53 basketball with two games this weekend. Coach Hoefs D we've been emphasizing fundamentals and fast break play as players vie for starting roles. Expected lineup features Martinka Lund Britton Baker Bryant Smith Cota with several reserves in contention.
Myrtle Point high school industrial art instructor Ray Neugart earned third place in the national School Shop Layout contest at the A V A convention in Boston. The competition awarded three divisions with cash prizes. Neugart’s bronze finish came among entrants from high schools nationwide in the industrial arts field.

In Coquille a jury of eight women and four men deliberated about nine hours on the $100,000 alienation of affections suit between Irene Billingsley of Portland and Ardyce Christensen of Myrtle Point. The panel reported they could not agree, and Judge William East discharged them as a mistrial. The retrial date is not yet set.
Mrs Belle Laird 87 longtime Goo county pioneer died at her Sitkum home Tuesday evening around 4 30. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 00 pm at Dora church with Elder Barnett of the L D S church officiating burial will follow in Dora cemetery.
Myrtle Point adopts a new city administration after the November 4 election. Jack Dunn becomes mayor with Nick Perkins as recorder Florence Miller treasurer and councilmen Robert Belloni Bill Eads John Heeren. Retiring officials are Mitch Myers Harold Stemmler Walt Crim. An improvements plan for the school area, led by Harold Watzting, is approved to form an improvement district with a $100 000 cost funded by district bonds if cash is unavailable. The project includes drainage and graded sidewalks across 140 lots.
Second Vice President Austin Dodge, presiding in the president’s absence, announced plans for a downtown Christmas decorations program by the Myrtle Point Volunteer Fire Department and called for volunteers Mitch Myers urged community support. The Myrtle Point Community band meets Mondays at the new junior high auditorium, with $25 approved by the Chamber for expenses and band supporters urged to engage with the 1953 county fair program.
Coquille Lions sponsor the fifth annual minstrel show Honeymoon Holiday at the old Coquille High school auditorium December 10 to 13. Tickets at Rackleff Pharmacy with reserved seats 1.50 and general admission 1.00. Proceeds fund rebuilding the new community building.
The Powers B P W club sponsors two Christmas decoration contests for Powers residents. Cash prizes will go to the three most effective decorated houses. Judging is set for Saturday December 18. Everyone is urged to participate to make Powers the brightest place for the season.
Mrs Henry Lever mother of Mrs Karl Dement of this city died in McMinnville hospital on November 23 after a prolonged cancer battle. A former Myrtle Point teacher and athletic coach’s wife, she was born November 17 1888 in Valley City North Dakota and graduated from Valley City State Teachers College where she excelled in music. Services were held in McMinnville with burial at Evergreen.
Myrtle Point Jumter high opens the season against St Monica’s non league Friday December 5 in the oval gym. Two games scheduled. The eighth grade team includes John Winchester and Tema.
