Boys Out in Front by 6 2 Over Girls in Week

At Mast hospital Myrtle Point six boys arrived last week while two girls came. Notable entries include John Carl Bell, great great grandson of Mrs. L A Humphreys. Four of the eight new arrivals are from Myrtle Point. Parents and arrival dates listed for each newborn. Thirteen new patients were admitted, from Broadview to Myrtle Point, Coquille, Arago, Bridge, and Remote.

Junior High Concert Draws Large Crowd At School Gym

A capacity crowd attended the first annual Junior High concert Tuesday in the Senior High gym. Music supervisor Arnold Melby led the program featuring the band in colorful uniforms and a prize contest awarding Greanna Stevens a flute solo first prize of ten dollars, Mary Ann Royer a vocal solo second prize of five dollars, and five one dollar prizes for third.

Mrs Humphreys Becomes Five-Generation Family Matriarch

Mrs. L. A. Humphreys, featured in a pioneer story, is named a great great grandmother after the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. John C. Bell on Sunday night at 11 96. The infant secures five generations of the Humphreys line, with Mrs. Humphreys as a great great grandmother and great grandmother to the Bell descendants.

Mary Lee Bushnell Escapes After Tractor Accident

Mary Lee Bushnell narrowly avoided death Saturday when a tractor overturned on a bridge and fell into three feet of water at Catching Creek. Uncle James Bushnell pulled her free as she suffered three broken ribs one fracture and multiple bruises. she remained in Mast Hospital Myrtle Point in stable condition.

Myrtle Point Bobcats open the season hosting Ashland High Friday night at the high school gym. Coach Curt Beckham expects a competitive battle against Ashland led by a six foot center Mayfield. Coos County to Establish Permanent Farm Planning Program

At a Coquille meeting the Coos County Agricultural Planning Council created a permanent farm conservation program with countywide farm leaders and a new rural youth sub committee. The group enlarged sub committees and added leaders from dairy livestock and Pomona Grange lines as well as the 4 H leaders and Smith-Hughes instructors to oversee rural youth activities. Charles W. Smith highlighted Oregon agriculture changes over 25 years and population growth impacting farming.

At a Coquille Saturday meeting Dr G H Wilster of Oregon State Agricultural College judged exhibits and spoke on Coos County progress in dairy products. He praised bottled milk improvements and noted Coos is the only Oregon section where commercial samples of all five are collected and properly graded.

Henry A Schroeder and Sons, furniture dealers in Mywtle Point, mark their thirty year anniversary during December. The firm began with Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder and now employs about fifteen people, with stores in Powers Gold Beach and Empire. Henry Schroeder has served on the state board of directors and was elected president for a years term, recognized as a pioneer Oregon furniture dealer.
