Myrtle Point Future Farmers' association hosted a well attended picnic at J M Wagner grove Broadbent last Sunday with an annual-pledge vote and a full day of events. Morning ballgame dads and sons, 80 guests shared a dinner of meats loaves salads cakes pies grape punch and more. Afternoon activities included horseshoe pitching swimming diving contests and water sports with a new diving board funded by the Four Farmers entertainment committee. Prizes were awarded while judges Mrs Verne Lundy Mrs L P Linn and Mrs Paul Breuer presided. The grove sits beside the Coquille river with easy riverbank access and ample picnic facilities.
The Coos County Fair adds a dollar dinner contest in the 4-H department. Ruth Wallace of Broadbent is the only entrant reported so far to prepare and serve a meal for four at 1 or less. Local sponsors Flame stores and Schroeder Furniture provide supplies, with Broadbent 4-H members showcasing demonstrations.

Myrtle Point Townsend club hosted John A. Jeffery of Portland for a Townsend Plan talk at the high school. The program included prayers, solos, readings, and remarks by Jeffery praised as the best yet heard in Myrtle Point.
O. L Paulsen head of vocational rehabilitation met with Coos County charities at Coquille. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Russell, Mrs. Belle Whitaker of Myrtle Point, W. A. LeGore of Bandon, Mrs. Martha Mulkey, C. W. Gano of Coquille, and Mrs. Eva Barrows of Marshfield representing Mrs. Walter Asplund who could not attend.
The Coos County farm cannery will begin operations on Labor Day September 2. Only first class produce is acceptable in limited quantities. Beans corn peas tomatoes prunes and apples will be canned on a 75 25 percent basis. Meat and salmon on the 60 50 plan. Reservations in advance are appreciated by the management.
Principal Floyd Summers announced to The Herald that all PWA project work is temporarily curtailed, forcing repairs to the Junior High to halt and classes to move to the Grade School. Workers rallied to salvage the original plans and hoped to resume by the start of next term.
Byron Nichols aged 55 formerly of Wedderbum died in a truck collision near Rock Creek on the Douglas county line while en route to Portland. His truck carrying household goods collided head on with a tire truck driven by John J Birman of Roseburg. Birman arrested on involuntary manslaughter charges. Nichols' wife witnessed the crash and Nichols died en route to Roseburg. Funeral services will be in Portland.
Reported wedding of Lyle E. Knight and Miss Bly with attendants including Mrs. Robert and Verna Barkiow among others. The ceremony followed a traditional procession as family and friends gathered, with brief notes on the bridesmaids and reception details.
The Coosa County Fair directors promise plenty of new features this year with pari mutuel betting, a five entertainer lineup, and an announcer car to keep crowds entertained. Expect rides, carnival events, and an extensive exhibit halls display including Coos county produce and Smith Hughes integration. A parade for children under years will be staged with prizes, as the fair aims for a memorable and well attended event.

His coast district covers from the California line to Tillamook and oversees about 20,000 food law items, stressing milk quality for infant nourishment and urging local cooperation with enforcement.
Melden Carl and Miss Yvonne Cross united in marriage at the bride’s parents home in Coquille Saturday night. The ceremony was performed by T B and the bride wore a navy blue outfit with white accessories. Mrs Oriln Lett sang with accompaniment by Mrs Cora Mackey. nineteen attendants were listed.
About 80 Robison descendants gathered at the Schroeder oak grove near Arnago for the reunion. Price, Rock, and Frank were the only members of the original family present. Averill of Corvalis, a sister, could not attend.
Twin Oaks School schedules a cleanup day coordinated by the district with community support. Clerk Mrs. Mary EB. Landy notes the event will take place tomorrow and the interior renovations include painting and seating updates.
Scott Greer was picked up Saturday morning for driving without a vehicle license. He faced a $5 fine and costs imposed by Justice E A Dodge.
