Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bargelt and children Doris Mae and Shirley will dine with Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Bartlett this evening. Bargelt, formerly a Linotype operator at the Herald, left about two years ago for a job shop in Oakland. The Margelts depart tomorrow for Forest Grove to visit relatives.
Drivers face license cancellations under the new motor vehicle law. Oregon residents must renew by submitting a sworn application with a $1 fee. Applications available at the Herald, state secretary offices, and traveling examiners covering six towns. Renewal by mail remains common, with many filings handled through the main office in Salem.
A Caps County Relief committee meeting is set for tonight at Marshfield City Hall to discuss matters of importance. All committee members are urged to attend.
A spectacle for flower lovers shows a varicolored display of gladioli at Myrtle Greenhouses. Over 25 000 bulbs of this popular species bloom this week, including more than 70 varieties. A M Cooper, proprietor, secured bulbs from national flower show winners for an unusually fine display.
The Myrtle Point Garden Club met at City Hall Tuesday to plan removal of weeds and unsightly refuse from vacant lots. A committee was appointed to confer with the City Council at the next meeting to discuss actions to denutify and safeguard local property.
The Coos County tennis meet brings Myrtle Point Marshfield Coquille Eugene Roseburg Grants Pass and Medford players September 2 3 and 4 to decide men singles men doubles and women singles. Entry fees are small and close Friday evening September 1. Entries go to Mare Scale North Bend or Earl Sims Marshfield. Local stars include William Gurney Herman Nelson Karl Kaufman Wallace Dement Perry Roper L Church Claire Booth and Marguerite Sunstrup.
A Southwestern Automotive Service organization meeting is set for Friday evening in Marshfield to complete NRA code work. Details are pending, with L. H. Pearce as contact. About 100 attended last meeting, with interest from Gold Beach and Reedsport to participate and finalize allied trades attendance.

McHenry proprietor of Mac's Auto Repair suffered a serious injury Saturday morning when a saw on a shaft connected to nearby machinery started unexpectedly. He lost the tip of his left little finger and other fingers bled as Dr R H Most treated the wound with hope for saving the remaining finger.
The Knights of Columbus held their annual picnic in Conrad Grove at Sunset. Catholics from the county gathered at St. Monica church in Marshfield and rode in a caravan, led by State Police Sergeant Williams. An outdoor Mass by Rev Father Bailey with Archbishop Howard of Portland delivering the sermon followed, then a basket dinner for the large crowd.
The Parrish family reunion was held at John’s Creek on Sunday with swimming and hiking. Attending were Laney Parrish and family of Gravelford, John Parrish of Myrtle Point, E. M. Neale, Oscar Parrish and family, Pet Parrish and Broadbent, Robert Parrish and family, Barbara Phillips, Agnes Parrish of Portland, Nora Parrish of Myrtle Point, and most relatives except Ann Parrish and the Bryant family.
Mr and Mrs J E Belloni hosted relatives at their Ash street home Saturday evening. Eleven guests were served a twelve place table. Attending were James D Clinton, Mrs A J Nussell of San Francisco, Mr and Mrs Theodore Clinton of Coquille, Mrs Joe Knight of Coquille, Mrs John Arnold of West Myrtle Point, Mr and Mrs HK Nicholson of San Francisco, and Dolores and Robert Belloni.
The annual pre-school meeting for rural teachers will be held in Coquille on Saturday September 2 in the circuit court room. It will be an all day session and promises to be very interesting.
Northwestern Oregon’s David Maseball fame promises a real treat Sunday as the Colored Houses Dae lem face the Loggers in Coquille. Babe Favors, 19, has 33 homers this season while Guy Owsley and Sammy Thompson form a Keystone double play duo with 140 double plays. The Loggers arrive hoping to avenge a 7 to 2 win over Grants Pass last Sunday and aim to upset the home team in front of a record crowd.
The city library added 34 new titles last week, with more than a quarter in detective or mystery genres. Notable entries include Dracula by Stoker and The Godfather by Bartley, among many others.
A Chevrolet logging truck owned by Kenneth Laird of Laird and Ierson Logging camp on upper Rock Creek, operated by Harold Stemmier of Myrtle Point, rolled over a steep embankment Tuesday morning after brake failure. The load of logs shifted, destroying the cab and top of the engine, while Stemmier escaped unharmed.
The Fearnley Drug store closed Saturday night as E. O. Sempert and N. G. W. Perkins negotiate the stock purchase. Provisional buyers inventory the assets while a final deal is not yet closed. Bob Fearnley, owner for a decade, plans retirement and possible move to a Aurora ranch after a long history in Myrtle Point since 1914. The community laments the departure of the Fearnleys from Coos County.
Seven year old Tommy Perkins son of Mr and Mrs Frantge Serkine of Fourth Street was seriously injured after falling from an old shed and workshop at Walter Tripp residence across the street. He suffered a broken vertebra in the lower back, was rushed to Mast hospital, placed in a body cast, then had the cast changed and will remain in a cast for six weeks.
A merry group motored to Yellow Creek on Sunday and enjoyed a delightful day. The party included Mr and Mrs W A Welman, Mr and Mrs Ray, Otha C Ray and Harold Lee, Mrs Mary Mix and guest, Mrs Smith of San Francisco, Mrs Marion Hoxey and daughter Marion, Mr and Mrs Frank Way, and Mrs Eugenio Fairley.
A sister in South Dakota reports Coos Countians face a disastrous season as cabbage sells for eight cents a pound and about 28 cents per head. Drought and grasshoppers have destroyed nearly everything, forcing residents to rely on dried fruits.

The Curry County Fair association released the racing meet schedule for Myrtle Point from September 13 to 16. Purses follow Oregon Racing Commission rules with 70 30 10 percent splits and no entry fee. The association may adjust races and the handicap system and reserves the right to change program order or postpone events. Stalls are available and jockeys must meet official standards.
Mrs. J M Bale reported a Monday morning fire at the Dan Rucht home on Grevelierd road. The barn and two months of stored hay were lost, along with a rabbit hutch and garden tools. Insurance partially covered losses estimated at over 1000 dollars. Fire spread toward the woodshed but the house was saved. canned fruit and roof sustained damage. Firemen believed some fruit may be salvageable.
