MP woman LaVada Hardman of Myrtle Point won the grand prize in the Apple Pie Baking Contest at the 63rd Coos County Fair. The prize includes a Frigidaire electric range, with six finalists receiving special gifts. Finalists included Jean Davenport, Howard Winkleman, Nadine Sree, Bernice Lillie, Millie Floyd, and Tella Rash.

Two Children Die In Highway Collision Near Kem xe
A 15-year-old girl Wilma Jean Davidson and her 11-year-old brother Steven Ray Davidson died when the car they rode in lost control on Highway 42 near Kem xe and hit a log truck. Their mother Winla Ray Davidson 41 Central Point was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. The log truck was driven by John Grotting 38 Coquille KH. he was uninjured.

The Myrtle Point day care center will reopen on Sept 3 with hours 8 am to 5 30 pm five days a week. Dan Gibbs wins top logger trophy at Loggers' Shodeo
Dan Gibbs, employed by Lloyd Anderson in the Puint area, claimed the all around logger trophy at the 11th annual Loggers' Shodeo held at the Coos County Fairgrounds arena. Gibbs edged Ray Austin of Griffey Logging Co. in the power saw bucking event with 47.6 seconds, winning the log chopping contest and placing second in ax throwing.
