RNA holds Monday meeting plans county convention

A regular meeting of the Reyal Neighbors war held Monday with about a dozen attendees. Plans were made for the RNA Coos county convention to be held in October. After the meeting, the ves terta de Lada tan oveter fee was well accompanied by the presence.

Farmers' Annual Picnic Sunday At Norway

The Coos Pomona Grange and County Dairy association sponsor the annual farmers picnic at Norway next Sunday Aug 22. Ray Deadmond and Martin Schmidt announce the event with free coffee cream and a family basket lunch. A visit to Martin Schmidt’s farm will showcase a new overhead sprinkler irrigation system. Cold Beach Plans Big Labor Day Celebration

Gold Beach prepares a three day Labor Day event for the first weekend of next month. Festivities include a fishing contest on the Rogue River with trophies for the largest salmon and steelhead. Other attractions feature rodeo games and dancing for attendees.

Open Air Jitney Dance Produces Profit For Parks

Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce and the Woman's Club earned a profit of 300 from the open air jitney dance at the city park tennis court. Funds will improve and maintain the court. A large crowd attended and enjoyed the event with special thanks to Mountain State Powers for free lights.

Mr and Mrs Verne Lundy hosted Mr and Mrs A J Basel of San Angelo Texas this weekend. The Basels own a 500 acre cotton farm in New Mexico and arrived with a 1 245 pound trailer built by the same maker as the Lindbergh plane. Basel was Lundy’s former schoolteacher. They planned a Seattle return trip after two weeks.

Fires threaten hilltop properties in two blazes

A 330 pm alarm sent firefighters to the John Sperry barn on cemetery road where a hog cooking fire sparked nearby. After dousing that blaze they were dispatched to the Ray Berck place where a spark ignited hay in a hole in the wall. The Renick barn and woodshed suffered total loss of tools and 400 cans of fruit and vegetables, with partial insurance coverage. Ray Renick had a heart attack from the ordeal and remains confined to bed.
