A regional arts show features the Coquille Valley artists among many exhibitors. The booth theme is Color Around The World, with Charlotte Schussier serving as president of the associate group.
Friday August 19 features a full day of 4 H and FFA activities from dairy and beef judging to entomology, judging contests, food and clothing events, dog obedience, and a parade. Evening events include horse show, calf scramble, teen dance, and a grand entry with rodeo activities.
The Myrtle Point Lions Club will run the Far Parade starting at 10 am this Saturday on Spruce street. Floats line up on West Spruce bridge, horses gather at the Fairgrounds, and entries must arrive by 9 am for judging before the 10 am start.
The district, led by Homer Peterson, discusses site options for a new elementary to replace Spruce School and a possible future secondary facility. The board reviews plans to locate a central site with low utility costs and contemplates moving students from Spruce to other schools as part of a consolidation strategy.
Assessor Francis Flanagan said timber owners face tax increases this year while most homeowners see reductions. Myrtle Point millage fell from 1051 to 97.3, reducing a $12 000 home tax by about $23.40. Powers shows the biggest decrease, North Bend the smallest, due to tighter budgets and higher taxable value.
School registration for new pupils runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from August 22 to 26. Parents may register children in grades 1 to 3 at Maple School or call 873-3004 if unable to visit. if registering at Myrtle Crest School, contact 572-2861.
