The House passes an economic control bill granting the President broad powers to regulate industries and credit with potential price and wage controls and rationing. Senate likely to approve a similar measure as postwar control fights continue and housing policy faces repeal after failure.
4 H youngsters from Coos Curry and Douglas counties attend the summer camp at Camp Myrtlewood from August 8 to 12. They are organized into Indian tribes with teen counselors guiding each group. The tribes include Chippewa Arapahoe Cheyenne Shawnee Osage Winnebago Quapian Cherokee with named counselors.
Coos Bay hosts the first college football game at Marshfield High School grounds on September 23 to raise funds for Portland Shriner's Hospital. The event features Hillah Temple bands, Al Kadar Temple members, and uniformed groups from Coos and Curry counties with a 4 PM parade and halftime stunts planned.
William Louis Brown of Myrtle Point traveled to Mexico City to join the Mexico City Writing Center at Mexico City College. The American style campus focuses on Spanish and Latino American studies plus standard humanities social sciences and natural sciences courses. Classes run in English and Spanish with housing assistance. Brown, a Marshfield High School graduate and U of O alum, served four years in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Donald Farr of Coquille told Myrtle Point Rotary that in travels through Holland Belgium England Ireland and France he saw no evidence the Marshall Plan money benefited the general European public He warned that socialism draws near in America unless action is taken promptly and spoke of perceived Uncle Sam asset abundance and national debt.

The Bobcats prepare for the season opener with Frank Moose May the lone holdover from the starting line. Seniors Glen Farrin Roy Dayton Bill Davenport Sanford Tripp join guards and centers along with a backfield of Jim Krantz Al Gilkison Bill Brooks Ross Pinkiey Doug Harris. Coaches expect about 65 players as transfers and inexperienced names mix with returning lettermen to push for a win.
G. B. Goddard superintendent reports the high school is taking shape for the opening day Tuesday after a summer of renovation and cleaning. All teachers are employed and will attend two days of in service training at the high school on August 31 and September 1.
Five boys and three girls welcomed at Mast hospital last week. Most will leave town soon to settle with families in Coquille Fourmile Reedsport Powers and Myrtle Point. Parents listed with hometown and birthdates from August 1950.

Aug 6 Shrine grove hosted the annual Former Lee Residence picnic with more than 106 participants. Attendees included former residents and many local families from Lee and nearby Medford, sharing a picnic dinner and socializing at the event.
At the football season opener on Friday September 18 Myrtle Point High School unveils a new grandstand and electric scoreboard to seat about 1500 fans. Labor is provided by the high school district No 2 with material valued over 10000 donated by the Myrtle Point Lions club. The old grandstand was moved and incorporated into the new structure while 81380 board feet of lumber are used.
The American Red Cross ten day swim instruction program at Sugarloaf pool taught 58 children from Myrtle Point and Coquille. Students completed courses in beginners to senior lifesaving but few earned certificates due to partial skill mastery.
