Local notes report injuries and promotions among service members. Ben Sempert’s son Billy reportedly wounded in July in Saipan with Marines. Lt Leslie Endicott killed in France July 15 after training at Fort Benning and studies at Washington and Oregon. Navy enlistee Hubert Deaver and others noted with transfers, training in Texas and Kansas, and cadet center reports from San Antonio.
In a terse note from the Coos Bay Times a claim is made that a hunter was killed by L L Lewis. The fragmentary text mentions retirement and a price, with unclear context and no additional corroboration.
Ranchers planning to burn brush land ahead of seeding for pasture were urged to apply quickly so wardens can conduct investigations before burning season. Keith Young, warden for the Coos Forest Fire Patrol, said approvals will aid burning under favorable conditions. An airplane seed service will be available through a Grants Pass firm for landowners who want plane seeding at about 1.30 per acre, with acreage and legal descriptions to be filed at County Agent George Jenkins office to prepare pilot maps. Rural fire crews will assist in supervision, seed supply, and coordinating seed by plane. Committee chairs will meet soon to organize the program.

Rev C H Finley of the Assembly of God church Myrtle Point announces evangelistic services at the church for about two weeks starting Tuesday night August 22. Rev and Mrs H B May from California will conduct, with May speaking and Mrs May singing. Services run nightly at 8:00 p m except Mondays and Saturdays.
An ambulance reported a crash Saturday evening above Bridge where a Plymouth sedan overturned. Occupants C. E. O Hallran of Portland and another man were cut and bruised as the car caught fire and the hillside burned. O Hallran received care at a hospital and the other man was taken to the Myrtle hotel. The car was a total wreck.
Two Oregonians, Lt C H Maclean of Charleston and Richard B Borcher of Empire, were in the first American plane to land on Saipan after U S forces occupied the island. Maclean’s plane landed 86 hours after the first Marines. both men received a warm reception from the occupation forces.
Rev Holly Jarvis of the Christian Church at Lebanon Oregon will speak at the Turner Oregon Christian Endeavor summer conference August 21 to 27. Delegates from across the state attend with Bible study and classes led by Rev Chester P Gates Vernon L Fishback and others.
A letter from Cpl. Marvin Barkley tells his mother he is resting briefly and has ridden a small French pony for recreation. He notes he is in a tank battalion with American forces in France and recalls going overseas in April and spending two months in England before D day.
Coos county reports 94 percent of total bond quota and 146 percent of bond type quotas in the Sun War Loan drive. Marshfield leads E bonds at 101 percent while Coquille, North Bend, Myrtle Point, Bandon and others show higher or lower percentages. Total county bonds sold reach 186 percent of quota with town by town tallies and types listed.
Special guest E C Roberta, a local real estate dealer, spoke at the noon Rotary luncheon at Jack and Jill Cafe about the real estate business since his entry years ago with his late brother L A Rotaria. On Wednesday August 9 Donald Williams son of Mr and Mrs Hollie Williams of Baroft community broke his right leg just above the knee while riding a caterpillar with his father in the woods. He was taken to Mast hospital for treatment.

Tech Sgt Robe rt W Hagedorn of Bridge has 70 combat missions as a radio operator gunner on the B 26 Maurader Patches with Col Thomas B Hall's medium bomber group in European operations. He wears the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with oak leaf clusters. Son of Mr and Mrs V V Hagedorn, he attended Union and Salem High Schools, enlisted December 8 1940, went overseas June 18, 1943, and took a furlough in August.
William B Norton aged 78 sustained severe bruises and head injuries after the car he rode in tumbled over a grade near the John Farleigh place a few miles from Bridgy. The crash was attended by the Schroeder ambulance and the car was driven by Alan D Albertus.
A military report notes an erred return of a German Shepherd trained for Army service. The dog about six years in service was to be returned to its owner but the army declined responsibility for care. The government stated training had made the animal aggressive and left disposal to the army at its discretion.
