New Attractions at the Coos County Fair

The Coos County Fair adds two new acts the Lucky Stars trick riders from Creswell Oregon and Miss Diane with her horse and dog performing on the rodeo and midway They arrive after recent engagements in Oklahoma and will appear Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon The Battle of the Bands features fourteen teen groups with prizes of 100 and a trophy The People and Me Motts The Pleasant Aftertastes and The Roses of Shadow perform Thursday and Friday Volunteers staff fair offices speakers include U S Senator Wayne Morse and Oregon Secretary of State Clay Myers with five minute talks each

Spruce School to Remain Closed Over Fire Safety

The Myrtle Point school board met last Wednesday and voted not to open Spruce school for the new year after the state fire marshal's office warned the building was hazardous to life. The decision follows an official safety notice and halts planned classes at the site.

A rare 1911 Coos County Fair image loaned by Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Dement shows R. C. Dement's roan Shorthorn cattle exhibited by the family at Oak Grove. Clare Dement sits in fur chaps. Ellis Dement stands best. The building and grounds remain as a Flower building and picnic site.
