Sheep Deal of Record Delivers Lambs to Portland in Record Time

M H Dement from near Powers made a quick spring lamb sale to the Portland market. He loaded two truckloads of 208 head Sunday afternoon, reached Portland Monday morning, and returned by 10 p.m. Monday, completing the trip in about 31 hours with a premium of a dollar per hundred. Dement credits superior breeding stock and spring seeding for feed, noting the improved range and high market price. He says trucks and good highways shorten the market route compared to past weeks when sheep moved by railcars after longer drives.

Horseshoe Tournament Featured at Coos County Picnic

The annual farmers picnic at North Bayside Grange in Glasnow will host a free horseshoe tournament on Friday August 23 with prizes planned for doubles singles and mixed doubles. State Smith-Hughes leader visits Coos County schools

I Paulson state director of Smith-Hughes agricultural activities toured Coos County high schools on Wednesday to review the coming year’s work. He will visit Coquille Bandon and Coos River departments as Coos County now has four Smith-Hughes programs the most in the state in a county with growing agricultural interest.

Miss Bessie Wells 40 of Bandon disappeared July 14. A badly decomposed body sighted by two Finnish fishermen off the Oregon coast near Rogue River harbor matched her description. Young Man Dies After Fatal Logging Accident

Alden I. Mast of McKinley dies twenty minutes after a neck injury from a broken gun pole at the Lawson Cypress camp in Gaylord. He lived 20 minutes after the 4:30 Tuesday event. funeral planned at Dora cemetery with services by Mr. Carrick. He would have been 29 on the 26th. survived by parents W. Spraying Fipton Weeds Cleared From Douglas County Highway

A crew under County Agent Hale sprayed Tipton weeds along the highway from Myrtle Point to the Douglas county line. The county funds the effort, aiming to kill this year’s growth and halt future spread into Jon Coos county lands. Canada spray has already been used on main county highways.

Agricultural council formed in Coos County meeting

Johnny Roberts to Go to Sister in Illinois

Johnny Roberts of Myrtle Point, once a local businessman, is to travel with Rev. C. C. Hulet to Albany this week before returning to Illinois to live with his sister. He has been ill since April and now uses aid to move. his mind has somewhat improved and he remains a county charge amid sympathy from friends. Born 1865 in Ohio, he moved to Coos County with uncle J. H. Roberts in 1888 where he worked for many years.

School work accelerates as repairs proceed. Superintendent Linn returns from Portland to finalize preparations for the opening of Myrtle Point schools two weeks after Labor Day. The Hamilton family says they returned to the Pacific coast Sunday and stayed in a Bel lingham cabin for two or three days. They plan trips to Mt Baker Vancouver Seattle Enumclaw and more while heading south. They encountered various weather and road conditions and enjoyed a hot Yakima valley trip leaving them burned and tanned.
