Winchester to donate historic rifle at Custer Battlefield site

Teronic Winchester will return a captured Winchester Model 66 rifle to the Custer Battlefield National Monument museum near Billings Montana during public ceremonies marking the Little Bighorn 76th anniversary. General Wainwright and Colonel Siegmund will present the lever action rifle that bore the Winchester name, once owned by Two Whistle a Crow scout who helped retrieve it after Custer’s defeat.

Lions and Guests Enjoy Annual Picnic at Mauna Loa Beach

Eighty four Lions their ladies and guests gathered at Mauna Loa beach on the Cogulile river for the annual picnic. The event featured a barbecue and later dancing around a camp fire. Guests included Hal Stewart and Mrs Stewart of Eugene and Mr and Mrs Austin Dodge with their guests the Mahons of Portland. The Mahons are installing a new neon sign at the Hiland. Cannery Opens Wednesdays Replacing Saturdays

Mary Adams longtime Myrtle Point resident dies at 80

Mrs Mary Adams died Saturday morning at her home in Myrtle Point She was born February 17 1871 in Santa Cruz California and had lived in Myrtle Point since 1873 Survivors include two daughters Mrs Gladys Martinis and Mrs Hilda Lewis two sons Clarence and Earl a sister Mrs Pearl Bennedick six grandchildren and two great grandchildren Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p m at the Schroeder chapel Rev Robert Sink officiated Burial was in Myrtle Point cemetery
