Fred True Named Coos County Commissioner to Fill Vacancy
The Coos County Court announced the appointment of Fred True to fill the unexpired term of P. W. Culver. True, a resident of Coos County for 41 years, previously ran Broadbent's general store for 25 years and moved to county seat four years ago. The term ends at the 1948 general election. Culver’s term would not have expired until 1980. County Judge L. D. Felsheim and Commissioner Fred Kruse made the appointment.

Four Coos County 4 H judging and demonstration teams will win trips to contests at the Oregon State Fair and Pacific International Livestock Exposition. A county 4-H Livestock and Crops Tour will be held August 22 23 with participants from Coos Curry and coastal Lane and Douglas counties. Dairy cattle beef hogs and sheep will be judged and top teams earn trips to the Pacific International Livestock Exposition or Oregon State Fair.

Coquille Valley Flood Control Funds Appointed

Death Ends Long Career Of Public Service
P W Culver Coos county commissioner died Thursday night at Meet hospital Myrtle Point after a paralytic stroke. He served as police chief Raymond and Myrtle Point and as deputy sheriff before being elected commissioner in 1942. Born May 23 1878 in Denmark he joined the coast guard in 1908 and lived on Langlois ranch later. He is survived by wife Josephine two sisters and a brother. interment at Camas Valley.

Concrete work continues at the city water works pump house with pouring of sections advancing at about one seven foot high unit per week. Four more sections remain to be poured before the pumps are set and the hillside delay is solved, foreman Andy Richardson said. Junior High Redecorated Opens September 2
The Myrtle Point junior high interior is being redecorated including sanded and refinished classroom floors with dark varnish removed and replaced by a clear finish. Walls and woodwork are now white and new fluorescent lighting installed to improve lighting and student comfort.

Thirty one Juvenile Grangers from across the county gathered at Camp Lawhorn in the McKinley community from August 6 to 10 under direction of Hilda Reiker North Bend. The group included members from Smith River Green and North Bayside Granges with several parents and state officials observing. Activities covered nature study bird study and wood burning with evening programs and a popcorn feast. State grangemaster Morton Tompkins visited on August 9 as parents joined Sunday campfire activities and a noonday meal marking the close of the event.
