The Coos County Fair features calf and lamb scramble events drawing 4 H participants. Calves weighing 350 to 400 pounds are donated by local firms including Security Bank Myrtle Point Veneer and North Bend based sponsors. Lambs are donated by Myrtle Point Rotary Bay Heat and others from Coquille and surrounding towns.
The Community Cannery will not operate now due to extensive repairs. Ken Crow, agriculture instructor at Myrtle Point High School, in charge of the cannery, announced that work was rushed to address the issues.

A large remodeling program at Mast Hospital is underway led by manager Paul Hammer with contractor Harold Grappe of Coos Bay. A new waiting room office space for four doctors and an extra exam room are planned, along with a redesigned front entrance and brick planters. Completion is expected by October first when Dr. Reed Gurney returns to join Dr. H. H. Thoms and Dr. F. E. Beber. The Gurneys will move into a home at Sixth and Bothwick Streets after navy duty and prior Myrtle Point residence.

Laird, a University of Oregon Law School 1934 graduate and former Myrtle Point attorney, seeks a judgeship in Marion County. He served as lieutenant colonel in World War II and earned a Silver Star for heroism. He opened Salem law offices after the war. he is son of Joe Laird and brother to Mrs. Elton Schroeder and Wilfred Lai of Coquille.
The Coquille Loggers and the Coos Bay North Bend Lumberjacks meet at North Bend Park on Wednesday August 25 at 8 p m for Coos Curry Shrine Club benefits. Amateur stars from Coos and Curry counties vie in a boost game with reserved seats priced at 1.36 dollars and proceeds supporting humanitarian Shrine activities.
