Entry day on Thursday August 1 opens a weekend of events through Sunday August 19. All divisions compete with afternoon horse judging and 2:30 calf scramble plus professional rodeo events. Browning Bros Carnival runs daily with added attractions and an auction sale of fat cattle to be announced.

Mrs. Paul Davis reported that Myrtle Point has a community cannery capable of processing fruit vegetables and meat daily yet few residents use the facility. The cannery operates Saturdays offering 10c per can for vegetables and fruit and 12c per can for meat. Malone’s strong interest may push for ending the project.
The Myrtle Point City council held a lengthy Monday session focusing on Fifth Sixth and Seventh streets grading and hard surfacing plans by City Engineer John Gearhart and Street Commissioner Bert Pearson. Bids will be sought soon. Mrs Rosslow and companions urged Sixth street north of Spruce be improved due to high traffic. She also complained about the garbage truck parked near her home on Sundays and holidays and the resulting stench.
Myrtle Point Lions Club announces free to low cost swim classes for children 8 and up during the week of August 20 to 25 at the Coquille Community swimming tank. Transportation provided, $1 instructor fee, towels and toys required, must register by August 15 at Franzen home or via 851.
The Myrtle Point Lions club board of directors and the wheel fortune committee will meet tonight Wednesday at 8 p m. at Ray Neugarts home, the president, with all committee members urged to attend.
The Myrtle Point Saddle Club plans its yearly Cowboy Breakfast in Myrtle Point City Park on Spruce Street Sunday morning August 18 from 6 30 to 11 00. Tickets cost one dollar and will be available to all comers. The event features an annual syrup party at Julia Beeson’s home August 14 with social time and refreshments.
An appeal circulated calling Myrtle Point residents with extra rooms to report them to Wayne Simpson at the Myrtle Hotel. The notice urged lodging during the fair period and promised help in securing renters.
During a noon meeting at the Myrtle Hotel Elton Schroeder led a motion for the chamber to urge Fifth Street to be reserved as a free lot for farmers and visitors. Jerry and Jack found a box at the city dump containing a yellow and white mother cat with black spots and five kittens. The box had been tied and left to starve or be burned to death to clean up rubbish. They saw a blue Ford with a damaged fender near the scene.
