A baby girl named Della Dee Walton was born on Wednesday July 26 at the local maternity ward. She becomes the fifth living-generation daughter in the Walton family, with mother Gloria Walton grandmother Louise Kerstine great grandmother Gertrude Landon and great great grandmother Carrie Adis of Seattle, aged 96.
Walter Eugene Vaughn aged 36 of Portland was killed in a Monaay incident. His body will be transported to Portland for further arrangements.
Bill Gilpatrick, one of two Oregonians selected from 486 applicants, will play first clarinet in the National FFA Band to be directed by Dr Henry S Brunner. He earned a University of Oregon summer scholarship and is praised by Myrtle Point staff for six years of band service and strong cooperation. The band travels to Kansas City. transportation furnished by National FFA.
About 75 4-H members from Cees Curry and Douglas counties, with parents and county leaders, completed a two day livestock judging tour in Cees and wry counties finishing with a third place in judging. The group camped at Flerns Lake and judged pigs beef cattle and dairy cattle. Attendees included Mrs. Robert Ocheltree and others from Remote.
Washington report notes a House debate on H. R. 9176 granting the President authority to require performance contracts over employment, aiming to establish economic controls. Rep Dewey of Missouri comments that liberty is first casualty of war as the bill's first section is outlined.
Sam Zeeiz, a logger, was injured when a log-boom failed at Powers during Coos Bay operations Monday around 2 30 PM. He was taken to Mast hospital where he was treated for multiple bruises and a broken leg.
The Rotarian scholarship of sixty dollars for the University of Oregon summer music session is split between Billy Caffey and Billy Gilpatrick. Local High School director Arn old Melby says both performed outstandingly and cooperation of Rotarians and Business and Professional Women makes Myrtle Point well represented each year. The session runs June 18 to July 18 with instruction, bands, and practice available.
Myrtle Grange members are urged to attend a Saturday 8:30 p.m. meeting in the hall. Speakers include Marlin Evans, fire chief, who will outline complete plans for the proposed Rural Fire district, with refreshments served by the Grange men.
Ervin Wilberger shot a low 33 using a 3 iron to win the One-Club tournament at Coquille Country Club on Sunday. Ervin Dettman posted a 40, and Wednesday is ladies day on the course. Next Sunday August 4 features Coquille Valley Country Club match play in Bandon. a Friday night work party with potluck is planned.
Odd Fellows lodges of Coos county announce their annual joint picnic at Norway Grove on Sunday September 16 with a potluck lunch at noon and a detailed program to follow. Attendees at the Coquille meeting from Myrtle Point include Noble Grand Don Welgemett and Secretary C P Medge.

John Carman of Gaylord sent a truck and trailer load of lambs to San Francisco last week and topped the market at 26 cents a pound. The lambs, shorn and prime, averaged about 86 pounds each, and Swift & Co. agreed to receive more shipments of his top-gun lambs. Merle Dunn hauled the load.
Don Shere named new manager of Thornton Tire and Appliance service replacing Howard Biggs. Shere, long time Thornton employee in Coquille, previously served as Norge supervisor and Coos Bay downtown manager. Reams becomes budget supervisor and sales promotion manager for Coquille store, with Pepella as office manager and Scragg handling general office work. Bud Holden assumes Coos Bay downtown store manager, Stanley Matson remains Evans' Blvd. manager, Earl Roush leads Myrtle Point store, and Ella Winkels resigns to return to Minnesota.
Oregon State College data show two fifths of the 1781 bachelor degree recipients last June were married, including 691 spouses. Among foresters, exactly half were married, with agriculture next at 49 percent, noting this excludes master's, doctorates, or professional degrees.
More than 300 people gathered Sunday afternoon at the rear of the Coquille Community building for the Pioneer association's annual meet and picnic. John D. Carl was chosen president as the group adjourned to the community building for business and friendship remarks.
