Prominent Powers Man Dies Sunday
George Lainger age 78 a Powers resident since town founding died in his sleep Sunday July 20 1990 after a period of ill health. Survived by widow miss Ella Schroeder, longtime resident of the Schrosder family. Lainger a 40year Coosa county resident born Marshall Indiana 1864 worked 30 years as a toadmaster. He belonged to Bingham Lodge Masons Myrtle Point Odd Fellows and Royal Aged Masons of Marshfield. Last rites held 2 pm Wednesday at Schroeder Funeral Home Myrtle Point with Rev W Smith officiating. graveside services by Bingham Lodge at Norway Cemetery.

Firefighters Battle Multiple Oregon Forest Blazes
Galice district fire near Horseshoe Bend and Eden Valley fire at Wooden Rock creek drew 158 CCC enrollees from China Flats camp south of Powers. After control 100 youths were reassigned to Eden Weller fire lists, with additional volunteers joining next day. About 200 civilians arrived from the west slope by speeder, while Sitkum camp sent about 50 men to Wooden Rock creek. Most burn was slash and second growth. Galice fire burned brush and repro growth and the Galice site originated July 21 and was destroyed.
