School Election Set for Monday in District 41 Myrtle Point
Voters go to polls Monday May 1 from two to eight for the annual district 41 school election. Ballots list budget approval exceeding 6 percent by 408 851 37 as needed, two school board seats, and building level committee races. Also on the ballot are a county levy, Rural School Board member, and a measure to form a Southwest Oregon Educational District to establish a junior college in the Coos Bay area.

JC's Install Officers For the Coming Year
The Myrtle Point Jaycees installed new officers on a Wednesday evening April 12 1961 at Anglers Cafe with 40 attendees. Fred Cook vice president of the Oregon State Jaycees conducted the installation. New officers include President Floyd Oyster vice presidents Bud Campbell and Bob Cline Secretary Roger Withar Treasurer Bell Cook and Directors Det McFerron Bob Phillips Raw Rice Bill Hamilton Ha Vrooman and Bob Wittaker. Joe Horenziette exchange student from Trieste Italy spoke on Italian education customs and economics. Dr R P Whitaker served as master of ceremonies and John Horton chaired the event.

High School Students to Attend Oregon Retailers Institute
Five high school students from Myrtle Point Powers Bandon Pacific Gold Beach and other schools will travel to Eugene for the 26th annual Oregon Beta Distributors Institute conference on April 30 and May 1. They were selected for interest in retailing and outstanding scholarship and will be sponsored by Henry A Schroeder and Sons with transport by Elton A Schroeder. Merchants from Coos and Curry Counties are urged to attend the opening 4:00 p.m. Sunday April 30 and afternoon session Monday May 1.

Myrtle Point residents joined hundreds of parents for Lewis and Clark College Parents Weekend held April 14 to 16. Attendees included Dr. and Mrs. James Hauschildt Mrs. London Jenkins and Dr. H H Thomas all freshmen hosts were Susan Hauschildt Douglas Jenkins and Hall Thomas events featured a Mother’s Club fashion show a president’s report on the new Lewis and Clark a student faculty variety show and a Mu Phi Epsilon concert.

Youth group banquet honors FFA FHA awards and officers
At the parent banquet more than 330 attendees heard a program led by FFA and FHA leaders David Greer and Avis Spires. Planting Completed In Gorse Control Study Near Salish
Rome 40000 Monterey pine seedlings were planted on cleared land south of Zandon as part of a study on controlling gorse in coastal Oregon counties. R K Hermann of the Oregon Forest Research Center says Monterey pine may shade out gorse, which has spread on about 25 000 acres of pasture and forest. If gorse is eradicated, about three quarters of this land could be returned to agriculture.
