L P Linn Named Ashland School Chief After Long Myrtle Point Career
Leland P Linn longtime Myrtle Point High staffer and 21 year principal will leave to become superintendent of Ashland schools. He was offered the Ashland post after 23 years in Myrtle Point and will assume duties July 1. He helped guide district growth since 1924 and holds Willamette and UW graduate credentials with Phi Delta Kappa honors. He and his wife have three children and active civic roles in Myrtle Point.

Harry Brown Dies in Action at Iwo Jima
Harry M Brown, 1923 born Estacada Oregon, died from wounds at Iwo Jima. He married Wanda Nichols in 1942 and left school in junior year to join the Marines. Survived by wife Wanda two daughters Carol Renay and Lindy Sue six siblings and many relatives.

County Nurses Meet In Or zeon State Association
A meeting of the Or zeon State Nurses association for district No 17 was held at Mrs. Bert Pearson home last Thursday. Dorothy Zadduck of Coquille was chosen president and May Curtis of Coquille secretary. The group voted to send money to the Chinese war nurses fund. The next meeting is set for May 17 at Mrs Zadduck’s home in Coquille. Refreshments followed.

Coos County 4-H leaders set August 1 to 5 for the second annual camp at the old McKinley CCC site on North Fork Coquille River. Funds and supplies are sought to complete kitchens, beds, dishes, and fixtures as prep continues. the site includes a dining area, dormitories, recreation space, swimming holes, and trails. Members of the camp committee list names from North Bend Coos Bay Ker Aid Fairview and more. Rural Life Sunday services will again feature 4-H club participation on May 6.

The Coos County Livestock association met at the Grange hall with about 50 stockmen attending. They favored a second government trapper, discussed land classification, and planned a Lamb and Wool show for summer. They also approved Douglass bill opposition and reviewed AAA activities while noting hamster transport and fire trail expansion efforts.
