President Roosevelt died quietly this afternoon at 2:30 in Georgia after decades in office. Memorial services drew hundreds of citizens as the nation mourned the loss and prepared for Truman to take over leadership.

Livestock Producers Hear Plans At County Meeting

A Monday meeting at the Grange Hall Myrtle Point invites all livestock producers and dairymen to 10 00 a m with a noon potluck. Topics include land classification grazing areas lamb and wool show wartime production goals and range development plans by the county livestock association.

Union High School Spring Concert Friday Evening

The Glee club and Band from Union High School join bands from Junice and Grade schools for a free spring musical at the high school auditorium Friday at 8 00 p m The program directed by C P McNab features instrumental numbers and vocal items led by Miss Inez Rover providing vocal presentations.

Albert Gulstrom Killed In Accident

Albert Gulstrom, 67, of Tillamook, Oregon, was accidentally shot near Arago, dying soon after as his wife Mrs. Gulstrom looked on from the house. The bullet entered his neck and perforated the jugular vein. He leaves a wife, two sons Albert Jr and Darwin of Arare, three brothers in Tillamook, and a daughter Mrs. Price Robison. Funeral services are set for Thursday at Schroeder mortuary with burial in Norway Cemetery. Rev. W A Barnett and Rev. M G Blickenstedt in charge.

Mr and Mrs Walppie along with C Brittain visited the area for a weekend stay at a local residence. Their visit included social calls and dining with area residents, marking a pleasant extension of seasonal hospitality.

Myrtle Point Opens Victory Bowling Alley This Saturday

Myrtle Point's new Victory Bowling Alley in the Beamon building next to the Herald office will be formally opened Saturday morning by L. J. Gleason and H. W. Vance. The five dark-pin alleys will operate from 10 a.m. to 11:20 p.m., with Gleason and Vance having moved the outfit from Medford after three weeks of preparation.

New Western Auto Store Planned for Myrtle Point May

Dick Johnson announces a Western Auto Supply store will open in Myrtle Point in May. The 32 by 90 foot Rossian Building unit next to Hiland Theatre will be redecorated. Lloyd Huntley handles the interior work. The franchise will sell auto supplies and household goods with Johnson as operator.

Ernie Pyle Killed by Jap Gun on Ie Island Front

War reporter Ernie Pyle was fatally shot on Ie Island when his Jeep came under Jap machine gun fire. A native of Indiana and longtime Albuquerque resident, he had reported from Italy France and the Pacific and inspired troops and civilians with frontline dispatches.

Property Moves Mark Wednesday Shuffle in Local Homes

Elmer Wicks family moved from Fourth street to a newly bought Sixth street home on the Stewar property. Sams parents-in-law moved into the Wicks place, while Caffey bought the Sams residence on Maryland. Schneider building saw a wide redistribution as tenants shifted within and between units amid a day of upheaval and sunshine. In music news, Mies Alice Metagus led a recital trip from Myrtle Point to Eugene with her parents and siblings, returning Sunday morning. Weather conditions noted.
