Cheese Awards Mark 4H Chairmanship Grants

Superior Cheese 4H announces awards totaling 100.00 to support dairy projects and fund high quality heifer calves. A 960.00 prize goes to the top club member for a dam line calf, with 40.00 for the second place. A three member committee will judge based on work quality, county fair exhibits, records, and home farm setup. Winners include Robert Lanway Greenacres first and Karlin Peterson Haynee Inlet second.

State Grange meeting plans in Coos County

Pomona Grange at McKinley voted to invite the state Grange to hold its 1949 convention in Coos County if accepted. They consider Myrtle Point, Coos Bay and Coquille as sites and seek financing for a juvenile camp instructor salary. They also approved buying stock in the Coos County Fair association and called for improved fairground policing at night.

Body Of Gus Amundsen Found On Lusk Farm

The body of Gus Amundsen, 68, was found Sunday near his home on the Lusk farm. He was last seen April 14 and thought dead about a week. Born in Norway, he worked as a blacksmith and crafted many knives for boys going to the islands during the war. Funeral services were held Monday from the Schroeder chapel with burial in Orway Cemetery, Rev. M J Blickenstaff officiating.

Myrtle Point Chamber Directors Set for Monday Night

Directors of the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce will convene Monday night at 7:80 in the chamber room. The group decided at the latest meeting that directors will meet on the last Monday evening of each month.

Zone meetings set for rural school board nominations

Five zones in Coos county will nominate rural school district directors next week. Meetings start April 28 with Zone A at 4 pm in Coquille, Zone C at 8 pm in Bandon, Zone D at 8 pm in Tweeday, Zone E at 8 pm in Myrtle Point, and Zone B held in North Bend. Petitions will be sent to the county superintendent for the June 6 election.

E G Alberts district agent for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service will demonstrate trapping and handling of poison balts and gases for mole control. Myrtle Point to Play Roseburg in Sunday Baseball Clash

Myrtle Point of the Southwestern Oregon league will host Roseburg on Sunday afternoon at the local diamond. Manager Harry Hogue announces the game is the first for the new Myrtle Point squad against a different foe after their prior match with the Coos Bay Elks was postponed by a date mix up.

Union High Music Students Headed to Southern Oregon Meet

Eighty five Union High School music students depart Myrtle Point for Ashland to compete in the Southern Oregon Musical Festival with ninety seven riders on two buses. The trip includes fifty four girls in the glee club and forty three boys in the band led by Arnold Belby. The trout season starts Saturday April 26 in most state waters and runs through October 18. There are exceptions listed in the official synopsis available at license agencies. Tidewater areas open June 15. Harney County May 31. Lake County May 20 with variations. General bag limit is 10 fish or 15 pounds. one day limit 1 fish but not to exceed 20 fish or 80 pounds. two fish in seven days or possession. No bag limit for whitefish or Dolly Varden. Local official Tadee faces murder list inquiry

District Meeting Held at Methodist Church

On Wednesday a district meeting was held in the social room of the Methodist church. Guests from Gardiner Moob Beach Coos Bay and Coquille attended. A program led by Mesees of Gardiner opened at 4 20 p m with Reneds luncheon afterward and a 1 o'clock afternoon session opened by Rev ud Briggs.
