The club announces changes with Mrs J M Marge Myers retiring as vice president and Mrs Kenneth Baker elected president while the retiring secretary is noted.
A Coos Bay group opened deer season with firearm safety talks for youths ages 12 to 18. The writer argues older hunters should also be included to prevent accidents. They urge that every inexperienced hunter receive proper instruction when issued a license and stress treating every gun as loaded.

Five utilities including Washington Water Power and Pacific Power & Light form the Pacific Northwest Power Company in Salem Oregon with 50 million dollars authorized capital to finance large hydro projects. Kinsey M. Robinson named president with J E Corette Paul B. McKee T W Delzell and A W Trimble as directors. The venture aims to supply future power for about 800 000 customers while keeping independent operations of member utilities. The group projects 1 4 million kilowatts existing capacity and expects need for 150 000 to 200 000 kilowatts annually.
Myrtle Point announces its annual clean up week from April 24 through May 1. Residents are urged to place all trash at the curb for free garbage removal by the city truck. Co chairs John Heeren and Spenny Roses led the Chamber of Commerce briefing at the Monday luncheon.
Coos Bay receives 2163.70, Bandon 434.97, Coquille 1378.26, Eastside 309.45, Empire 786.14, Myrtle Point 706.86, North Bend 2120.59, Powers 311.19. Eight cities share 8211.16 as part of a 300000 distribution to 213 Oregon cities from liquor revenue for the quarter ending March 31, with the rest of the state funds going to the general account. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission also distributes 180665 from purchaser permits sold in January through March.
Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club members report the new clubhouse is under construction with the concrete foundation poured. Olin Meader leads carpenter work while Harold Watzling coordinates donations and volunteers. A fishing movie from Hollywood will be shown at the new junior high auditorium Friday night May 14, highlighting Salmon and Rogue river fishing and Atlantic fly fishing.
Myrtle Point writers Mrs. James Watson and Mrs. Clyde Lillie have signed with Four-Star Record Co Pasadena California after four songs named Musings Useless Tears Twinkle Twinkle and Everybody Loves My Darlin were accepted for national broadcast over 2200 radio stations.
The Lions Easter egg hunt drew joy to children and adults with prizes awarded across groups. A silver egg mystery was solved when a boy revealed it was in his bag among other eggs after prizes were handed out.
The city council discussed two street projects at Monday’s meeting based on a petition from about two thirds of Spruce and Maple street property owners west of 8th and east of Bender, asking to delay paving. A second Maple Street sidewalk project from 4th to 8th streets was not protested and plans will be drawn, aimed at easing school travel and aiding mail delivery.
Myrtle Point Union High School track team places third at the Hayward Relays in Eugene on April 16. Estacada wins with 20 points, Illinois Valley 29, Myrtle Point 23. Distance medley team wins in 11:28 with Larsen, Whitaker, Harry, Gibbs. 440 relay places sixth, sprint relay ties Hayward record at 36.7. Daly Cota and Dale Hervey noted. Richmond clears 11 feet 8 inches for high jump first. Coach Petersen praises team effort and competitive spirit.
Southern Coos county golfers have submitted five 9 hole score cards to establish handicaps for the annual Spring Handicap tournament set to begin the second Sunday in May, the 9th. Prospective players must contact Buck Elliot, proprietor, to arrange flight setups and qualify through management before the tourney. Don Wilkie, golf pro, will assist beginners next Friday to improve swings at Comite Valley Golf and Country Club.
Charles A. Martensen son of Mrs. Walter Crabb of Myrtle Point serves with the 9th bombardment wing at Mountain Home Idaho and has been named the outstanding airman of his squadron by a commander’s letter to Mrs. Crabb. The missive lauds his dexterity, conduct, and helpful habits as exemplary to United States air forces.
Henry Schroeder and Sons announce they are franchised dealers for Admiral appliances in Cocos Bay and will feature the Amana line as part of their offerings.
Greyhound buses will operate on daylight saving time schedules after April 26. The change affects routes and departure times as clocks spring forward.
