Reports from Myrtle Point veterans note Sgt Aloe Ruhl returning to embarkation duty after time at Mather Field California. Cpl Earl L Knox and wife on a 10 day leave from Orlando Florida visit parents. Pvt Joseph Cristoni married in New York City while on furlough and stationed at Trenton New Jersey. Marvin Huff completes primary flight training at Livermore California and heads to intermediate training. Pvt Willem B Smith assigned to Ft Knox Kentucky tank school. Pvt Jack R Sperry completes basic training for combat duty with armored unit at Ft Knox. Lt Forrest Sheedy and wife visited family en route to new post after maneuvers with 44th Infantry Division. Mrs Ernest Watkins reports husband back to naval hospital after SeaBees duty in the South Pacific. Pvt Jack D Stiles in Fiji Islands with medical corps writes of liking the work and islands.

Valley Men Report for Pre Induction Physical Exam

The Coquille Selective Service board called the largest group of men to report for pre induction physicals in Portland on Tuesday. The list includes 16 Myrtle Point residents and many men aged 26 to 36 who may be drafted if found fit and not engaged in essential war work. The roster shows names from Myrtle Point, Port Orford, Coquille, Bandon, Marshfield, North Bend, Roseburg, and surrounding areas with several out of state entries.

Harold Hall Leads 26 Europe Missions In B 24 Service

Harold T. Hall 27 year old Liberator crew chief in England set a record with 26 missions by the Zoot Bacot and seven by others without a turn back. A former Myrtle Point donkey puncher and U of O student, Hall trained as a mechanic and kept B 24s flying through raids from North Africa to Romania and Osnabruck. Promoted to staff sergeant and recommended for the Legion of Merit, Hall reflects on hours of work and dangers guarding the big bombers.

Pioneer Woman Ella Lehnherr Dies in Seattle

Women Needed On Dairy Farms In Oregon

Oregon State College Extension offers additional spring classes to train women dairy workers responding to dairymen requests.
