Myrtle Point City Council Accepts Longtime Member's Resignation

The Myrtle Point city council met with Mayor Jesse Clinton and eight members present. Samuel Breuer resigned after many years on the council, and the body expressed sorrow at his departure. A resolution noted the relief from civic duties may aid his health. The WPA city hall project was approved, and work on streets and sidewalks will begin Friday May 5.

Power Company Cuts Rates Across Residential and Commercial Tariffs

N G Wallace announces Mountain States Power company files new residential tariff to take effect with May meter readings in the Couns Bay division and a new commercial light tariff for June readings The residential rate cut saves 23000 annually while commercial bills drop 9009 bringing total annual savings to customers 32000 The filing notes a 16000 reduction in the commercial schedule at year end and similar reductions announced for the Tillamook and Willamette districts as part of a system-wide move to ease costs for users across the area.

Cups County Music Festival in Coquille Saturday

The fifth Cups County Music Festival will be at 1:30 pm Saturday in the Coquille High gym. About 700 pupils from Coquille, North Bend, Myrtle Point, Sitkum, and Englewood will perform in four ensembles plus solos and a skit. The event features two trumpeters from the Coquille High band and a full program of songs, marches, and choruses.

Mrs E F Hoffman fell five to six feet Friday evening injuring her left ankle. She was taken to Mast Hospital where initial signs suggested torn ligaments but Monday X rays showed a fractured ankle. Picnic honors Clinton family as they prepare to leave for Idaho

Lee Laird and Walter Schroede families from the area joined 49 guests at George Clinton's Shore Acres home for a picnic Sunday in honor of Mrs Clinton's son Clarence John and family who plan to move to Idaho. Townsend Club Elects Delegate to National Convention

The Townsend club elected M. R Lee as voting delegate for the national convention in Indianapolis June 22 to 35 with H. M. MacLean as alternate. 4-H Achievement Day Display at Myrtle Point Junior High

The annual 4-H achievement display featuring project work from all groups will be held in the Myrtle Point Junior High gym from 1 to 4 30 pm and 7 to 9 pm for those unable to attend afternoon sessions. The cooking group girls directed by Mrs Earl Adams will serve tea to visitors.

A quilting party hosted by Mrs W R Davenport lasted all day Thursday with a potluck at noon for numerous local residents. Visits included Annie McNair with George Haermann and Victor Johnson’s Marshfield visit, plus many casual calls and dinners among Myrtle Point, Broadbent, Norway, Roseburg, and Arago communities.
