Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce hosted Rep J H McCloskey of Norway as the guest speaker. He reviewed the last legislature, explained bills, and outlined work on the Lilla to aid the region. The group planned Clean Up Week with the Lions Club and voted prizes for home classes.
Local items from Bridge and surrounding areas describe visits by Mr and Mrs Henry Bryant and relatives, church services, and a Hood Church Endeavor breakfast. School news highlights grade projects, Easter activities, and visitors day with refreshments, while residents report health updates and local farm tasks and travel to Powers, Myrtle Point, and Marshfield.
McKinley Marvin Brown son of Mr and Mrs Reuben Brown had his tonsils removed on Saturday at a Coquille hospital and returned to school Tuesday morning. Mrs Nellie Brown traveled to Salem Friday for an indefinite visit with relatives. Mrs R H Lawhorn drove to Bandon Sunday with her brother and sister in law and other relatives. Sunday visits included Mrs Clyde Gage of Coquille hosting Phyllis and Leonard Lawhorn and Mrs J K Baker. Mrs Harry Hansen visited Mrs R H Lawhorn Friday. The McKinley Welfare Club met Saturday at the clubhouse with a social hour and a potluck lunch for about 37 members.
Numerous local residents are noted hosting and visiting across towns. Easter callers include Elmer Knight family and others at Catching Creek and Willow Creek. Portland and coast guests frequent Myrtle Point, Broadbent, Coquille, and Port Orford with several weekend and Sunday visits.
Lincoln biographical film shown at 8 pm next Tuesday April 18 at the Methodist church. Walter Houston portrays Lincoln with fidelity, tracing his early hardships clerkship courtship with Ann Rutledge Mary Todd marriage and presidential years. Admission charged with a freewill offering collected.
Lye Mecum of Sandy Creek was thrown from a mule while changing his position and suffered a brain concussion during Easter Sunday events. He was taken to Mat hospital around 11 oclock and regained consciousness at 1 7 oclock that evening with X rays expected to reveal possible skull fracture.
Lee Mias Lorene Clark and Henry Hansen of Marshfield spent the weekend with Clark's parents Mr and Mrs 8 D Clark and Carl Anderson's family. Sunday dinner guests included Mrs Nora Lewis and Miss Lorraine White of North Bend visiting Miss Kula Mae Gant. Local residents Harold Hal and Miss Marie Clinton joined gatherings with Ben Gant Jr and the Laird family while Port Orford visits occurred.
Last week the ANA Cards hosted a galloping tea with sewing and refreshments, honoring Mesdames Tripp, Myers, Felsher, Mahaffy, Conley, Mast, Gilkison, Brown, Sparks, Mast, and Nellie Kaont among others. A Presbyterian Easter party plus a St Ann Altar Society card party are planned with games, stories, and light refreshments.
Mr and Mrs Howard Beely of Eu gene moved Sunday to Mrs Ella Bryant house on Aah street. Mr and Mrs Eugene Young moved into the Jacok Perry house on Maple street last week. Mr and Mr Mike Bohlinger of Port Orford moved into Evelyn Butler house on Sixth street recently. The G J Meyer family moved from near the city limits on Roseburg road to a mile out of town on Gravelford road.
Miss Lucy Case extension specialist in foods and nutrition will lead a child feeding meeting at Gravelford Community Hall Friday at 10 30 a m. A potluck lunch will follow at noon. Attendees should bring a dish. Miss Julia Bennett assists. a girl will care for small children. Everyone is invited.
Ralph Hufford of Myrtle Point and Burr Monred among five University of Oregon men pledged to Sigma Upsilon Ye Taberd Inn the university's writing honorary. Pledges initiated at 8 o'clock last Thursday night at Prof W F G Thacker's home.
Catching Creek residents Elizabeth Gallagher of Astoria and Leo Gallagher visited relatives over Easter. Several families from Powers and nearby areas, including the Woods, Grove sisters, Brown family, and Bushnell, hosted or received guests and went visiting in the community through the week.
A flurry of visits and social calls fills the weekend in Coquille and Myrtle Point. Bancroft Waterman and family host and visit relatives including the Everndens, Kirkendalls, and Jewetts. The community gathers for Easter activities and Sunday dinners.
A small group from Norway attended a Wednesday event honoring guests including Mayer Fredeen and Lewellen Maloney along with Mr and Mrs J H McCloskey. A large decorated cake bore the message Home Bert and Serah as toasts were made and the evening closed with dancing and visiting.
Local social notes describe Mrs Winesbeth Lett and others visiting neighbors in Langlois and Coquille. The piece lists dinners, callers, and visits by Bettencourt family members, Schroeder, McDonald siblings, and L. J. Meloney, plus school honor roll names and Easter party helpers.
Myrtle Point golfers won the first inter city tournament at Coquille Valley Country Club defeating Coquille with a 24 percent to 11 percent point spread. Theodore Clinton posted the day low with 74 and Rae OHnson had the high score at 164. Each town fielded a 12 man chosen team in the event.
Mr and Mrs Payne relocate to their daughter Mrs Ges King's home to operate the ranch and start raising cuseens. King works in a logging camp. Several local residents spent Sunday visiting, playing ball, or calling on friends. In Coquille and Pleasant Point, neighbors, and routine tasks are noted.
Pleasant Point residents and guests share a week of social calls and visits. Mrs Roy Swan hosts and visits occur at the Bruno Lange and C Guy Mann homes. Various couples and individuals, including the Watsons and Manns, stop by multiple homes through Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Townsend club schedules a Friday evening program at the grange hall with dancing afterward. On Thursday April 37 the rl and Boy Scouts of Bridge present Mebgebla Pete at Myrtle Point High School gym. On Sunday April 16 the club will elect a delegate to the fourth national Townsend convention in Indianapolis from June 22 to 36.
East Dora residents Mr and Mrs Meal Gearhart visited at the T S Masten home Sunday. Mabel Cotten called at the T Basten home Wednesday. Seer and Mrs Vielters, Myrile Fobsi Fetay and others called at various L C Overman and L C Gormi homes.
Easter gatherings include Mr and Mrs Lloyd Warner with Billy and another family group at a hostess’s home. Guests Mr and Mrs Loren Guerin with Harry Patricia and Billy Peden visit Roland Weekly Ann and Dean after an outdoor picnic and egg hunt for children. Honored with dinner Mr and Mrs A C Chase entertained last Thursday at Roy Booker home in Coquille. Miss Ernestine Schneider spent the weekend at Illahe with her parents. Florence Guerin returned from a two week trip to Forest Grove and Eugene. Wm Lundy returned from a 12 day trip to San Francisco visiting Driesback.
