The Fairgrounds at Myrtle Point hosts the Coos County Sheriff Passe Shodeo June 14 16 with a Fair Queen contest. Six finalists will be chosen the first night and one queen plus two princesses will reign over fair activities.

Mrs. Clarence Van Doren a Myrtle Point resident for 24 years died April 14 1968 at Keizer Hospital North Bend after a short illness Born June 16 1892 in Bomiphan Nebraska she moved to Myrtle Point with husband Clarence Van Doren in 1944 He died in 1949 She was a Presbyterian deacon and past president of the Ladies Aid She belonged to Elgin Chapter 424 OES and served as chaplain for 15 years She cooked at Mast Hospital before retirement and was a skilled seamstress Survivors include three daughters Viola Anderson Betty Krewson Winifred Hurt of Myrtle Point and two sons Clyde Van Doren Omaha Nebraska Burton Van Doren Richland Washington Funeral services were set for April 18 at 10 00 a m at the Myrtle Point Chapel Rev Gerald Wright officiating with Elgin Chapter 424 OES members participating Burial in Sunset Memorial Park Coos Bay

Nita Whitney Dies in Bend at 66

Mrs. Nita Frances Whitney of Bend Oregon died April 14 1968 at age 66. She was born April 12 1902 in Rural now Powers Coos County and lived in Myrtle Point before moving to Bend two years ago. Survived by husband Emerson Whitney a daughter Ala Eshoe Portland two sons Clifford Wilson Eugene and Richard Wilson Phoenix Ariz. Also 12 grandchildren brother Dick Arnold and sister Mrs Nell Sanborn. Services Thursday at 2 00 pm Myrtle Point Chapel with vault interment at Norway Cemetery.

William F. Cook Dies of Heart Attack in Myrtle Point

William Francis Cook aged 39 died Friday April 12 at his home 2324 Harris Street from a heart attack. Born March 29, 1929 in Sayre Pennsylvania, he lived in Coos for 15 years and belonged to St. Anne's and Michael's Catholic churches. Survived by widow Phyllis and children Patrick Daniel Linda, and brothers Thomas of Bandon and John of Lawrenceville PA. Requiem Mass held April 15 at St. Anne's Myrtle Point. Interment at Myrtle Crest Memory Gardens Coquille.

Jones Named New Head

Ted R. Jones of Eugene has been named safety representative by James E. Wies of the Accident Prevention Division of the Workmen's Compensation Board. Jones will inspect all accounts subject to the law and is based in Eugene. He previously served in the Air Force, farmed, and worked as a dispatcher and Farm Bureau representative.
