Large crowds gathered at Schroeder Furniture for a multi day auction sale. Mr Schroeder said he was not closing shop but needed cash, offering buyers a real bargain sale. All four days drew strong attendance and brisk bidding with goods moving quickly.
Fire chief sufers burns as West Myrtle Point woodshed blaze
Firemen answered a 1230 call to the R. D. Kring ranch where a woodshed and garage burned. The fire destroyed the upper half of the structure and its furniture. Fire Chief E. J. Schneider sustained burns to both hands from falling embers while directing hose work. The Dans Miller family lived on the premises and had no insurance on the building.

State Extends Time to File Tax Return
Salem Obe April 14 UP A general extension of time for filing state income tax returns was granted until June 15 announced by John Carkin and other members of the state tax commission Personal income tax remains the same form as passed by the 1929 legislature and approved by voters in last November's election Tax on interest and dividends is not taxable under the personal income tax law if taxed under the intangibles act The commission will issue return forms if no referendum is sought within 80 days The intangibles act may be administered with the personal income tax to reduce cost and confusion Exemptions are 2600 married or head of family 1500 single and 400 dependents The tax rates start at 1 percent and rise to 5 percent for income over 4000 A liberal estimate of collections is 1 000 000 given current conditions
