European Recovery Program headed by Paul Hoffman

The Economic Cooperation Administration known as the ECA will manage the European Recovery Program with Paul G. Hoffman named administrator. The agency will hire about 1,000 US staff and 400 overseas, using state department personnel and existing channels to avoid new bureaucracy while planning relief and recovery steps.

Power Company To Install New Transformers

Austin Dodge of the Miland Theatre said Sunday afternoon power shutoff will cancel the matinee but evening shows proceed. Three transformers arrived in Myrtle Point last weekend and will be installed Sunday from 1 to 4 30 PM. Bill Head said current will be cut during the work. The upgrade will raise capacity from 25 to 560 KVA improving voltage for Myrtle Point users.

Fair Board Sets 48 Admission Prices At Meet

Coos County Fair Board directors met in Coquille to set admission rates for the upcoming fair. Prices: grounds 18c and 3c children, grandstands 1.50 with bleachers 1.00 in most sections, infield 1.25, Friday grandstand 1.25 and bleachers 1.00. A livestock building inspection trip was authorized to plan expanded exhibits. Attendees included Jease Clinton, PC Roper, Orvis Miller, Sam Dement, and EL Clausen. The next meeting will be in Bandon on May 1.

George Belt Funeral Services Held In Portland

George L Belt funeral services were held in Portland on April 14. Born July 22 1916 in Salem Oregon he studied in Dallas and Salem High School and graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1935. He served in World War II with the 2678th Hdye Co CIC Hq and earned multiple medals. He married Esther Nelson in 1941 and is survived by his widow son and extended family.
