Union High To Graduate 40 May 26
Commencement at Union High School will honor 40 seniors on May 26 in the auditorium. Dean J. B. Jewell of the University of Oregon School of Education will deliver the speech. Valedictorian Bonnie James and salutatorian Ann Anderson lead a class with 17 boys and 23 girls from Myrtle Point and surrounding districts.

Mrs Jack Hartley Dies In Washington
Mrs Inez Hartley died at her Granger Washington home on April 7 after a years long illness. She had been bedfast six months. Funeral services were held in Granger the following Saturday. The Hartleys left Broadbent ten years ago and were members of the Church of the Brethren. Survivors include her husband Jack Hartley a son Cecil Hartley of Myrtle Point two daughters Esther Ortman of Yakima and Ruth Hartley of Gentry three sisters Mrs Wes Ya Pale Mrs Rossa Fiter and Mrs Chas Mar Hore seat California.

The Bobcat track team lost to Marshfield 75 to 47 in a Tuesday afternoon dual meet. Hatfield had high honors with 15 points including wins in the 120 yard high hurdles and 100 yard dash, Belton won the mile, Helstand the half mile, and Dever in the pole vault. A county relay meet is planned at Coquille Friday with all high schools participating.

Wallace LeRoy Hawkins, in the navy over two and a half years, has just arrived in New York after a third torpedoing experience. He hopes for furlough while in the states and his ship participated in the landings of troops and invasion of Africa. He was rescued after the attack and waited in Gibraltar for repairs to his vessel.
