Myrtle Point Chamber backs 2nd War Bond Drive start
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce plans to aid the 2nd War Loan drive authorized by the U.S. Treasury Department starting next Monday the 12th. A county and local committee will promote bond sales, with several committees to be appointed to boost government bonds and help raise 13 billion dollars in the next weeks. The Herald runs a government ad listing seven types of securities and urges citizens to save and invest in bonds to fund munitions, planes, and supplies while preventing inflation.

New County Judge To Be Appointed By Governor

Bobby Meek Dies In Portland
Funeral services were held for Bobby Meek aged 20 months at Schroeder funeral chapel. He died in Doernbecker hospital Portland March 29 after a short illness from TB meningitis. Interment was in the Parrish family plot at Nor way. He was the only child of Mr and Mrs Dick Meek of Klamath Falls and a grandson of the late Robert Parrish. The mother is Katherine Parrish. He was transported from Hillside to Portland by plane, arranged by his aunt Miss Agnea Parrish.

First Place in Future Farmer Contest Awarded to Jack Ellis
Jack Ellis, last year's graduate in vocational agriculture, received Tuesday's first place district honor in the Future Farmer Better Farming contest. The $15 Kiwanis prize was awarded by the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce as Ellis showcased a dairy project with one registered and three pure bred dairy animals, oats and vetch on 1.5 acres. His farm improvements include irrigation, a new dairy barn, a farmhouse shop, and new equipment. Eleven southern Oregon district schools competed in the program. Ted Kirsch, agricultural instructor, called it the highest honor in a boy's farming career.
