Bid date for Myrtle Point Highway 42 reconstruction shifts

Bob Johnson, resident engineer in Coquille, reports the bid setting for the Myrtle Point 42 reconstruction moved from April 36 to May 19. The project requires a three week advertisement and a ready preliminary plan to meet the schedule. Plans for a 48 four lane highway from Dee's Market to the scales in east Myrtle Point remain in design and cannot meet the April 7 deadline. Johnson says preliminary plans in his Coquille office are ready for the May 19 bid setting.

Traffic collision leads to Drive on Right Side citation

State police cited Miram Eloise Virmala of Broadbent for failure to drive on the right side after a collision with a vehicle driven by Isac Edward Sandine of Sitkum on April 11 at 8 15 p m. Virmala's eastbound car on Highway 42 near Myrtle Point collided head on with Sandine's westbound vehicle. Both cars suffered front left fender damage. Virmala was treated at Maet hospital and released. Cancer Crusade Week proclaimed in Coos County April 17 23 with mobilization by local officials and Coos County Cancer Society chair Mrs Dean Sheldon to support Cancer Month nationwide.

Capt Dayton Earns Air Medal Clusters at Randolph AFB

Captain Roy D Dayton, son of Mr and Mrs Willis A Bryant of Myrtle Point, received the third through seventh oak leaf clusters to the Air Medal at Randolph AFB Texas for bravery and airmanship in the Southeast Asia conflict. He is an inductor pilot with Air Training Command and a 1954 aviation cadet graduate who studied Linfield College and Oregon State University.

County assessor Flanagan announced about 5,500 notices will mail to taxpayers in Myrtle Point with increased real property assessments this year. Highway Commission Seeks Bids for Powers Bridge 1 Project

Oregon State Highway Commission will open bids April 28 in Salem for two Coos County projects totaling about 11.81 million dollars. The Powers Highway bridge over the South Fork Coulie River near Powers will be a 397 foot reinforced concrete two lane span. Completion is set at 220 days with road approaches built by state forces. The second project includes a paving job in Coquille. Elton A.
