Coos and Curry county fair board members Dement Pearce and others pledge a registered Thoroughbred heifer calf as a prize for the best Smith-Hughes project in the two counties. The calf will be raised on the Dement ranch Broadbent and may be registered. County appropriations include a thousand dollars from the county court and two hundred dollars for 4 boys and girls club premiums. Grange groups will again back the fair with farm display booths and co operative efforts. Next board session set for North Bend in May.

Alvin Eads returned home from Wortland where he traveled on business regarding the new Union oil station near Spruce and Eighth streets opening around the 20th. Pacific Bancorporation, including Bank of Myrtle Point, mailed notice of a quarterly dividend of 8.76 per share on all outstanding Class A preferred stock to be paid April 18. the second dividend since formation July 17 last year after a prior semiannual payment on January 1.
J B Moomaw an Arago rancher ships over six tons of artichokes to Corvallis college. He plans to market artichokes for hog feed and medical research with labs in Milwaukee receiving dried slices. He expects yield to reach two tons per acre and foresees a growing industry in Coos county.
Report states a forest lookout will be built this summer on Mr Anderson, a prominent peak in the region, to provide wide summit views and allow rangers to detect fires early.

A Marshfield contractor buys four acres from E. Frye to erect four houses for sale.
Prof Morse former Myrtle Point high school principal and current economics professor at the state university of Eugene also serves as pastor of a Monmouth church. He spoke to high school students and met old friends during his visit this week.
Myrtle Point graduates and staff prepare 15 to 20 participants for a Corvallis tournament bringing 20 high schools together. Events include livestock weight estimation, pig feeding, grain judging, animal marketing, farm mechanics, egg grading, and milk testing. Leland Wagner will serve as banquet toastmaster at the event.

Hulet, once a Myrtle Point Union High School sensation, continues to shine in college track. In Forest Grove he won both the mile and half mile races. He is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Chas. C. Hulet, formerly of Myrtle Point, now Albany.
Elder Leander Smith and family formerly of Myrtle Point visited Twin Lake last week from Newberg. A surprise potluck gathering at the Read home featured food, music, and games for all ages, strengthening old friendships before the Smiths returned home with fond memories.
