Social and business friends, staff, and patients express a shared spirit as abundant floral tributes arrive for the season. Break in the weather lifts mood, and residents note a sense of renewal and togetherness in the hospital environment.
Mrs. Martha Mulkey announces a countywide WPA library project to recase and repair books with three workers and an expert librarian to train staff. The project office is in the old court house basement and materials will be billed at cost.
Miss Mary Watkins, daughter of Mr and Mrs H Ernest Watkins of Halls Creek, is named among 48 honor roll students at EON for the winter term ending March 18.
A group of about 24 friends surprised the couple last Thursday night for their 18th wedding anniversary. They received several gifts including a 14 inch bride’s cake baked by Mrs Scott Greer and a juke box. Cake and coffee were served to many guests, with names listed among the attendees.

Myrtle Lodge will hold a Past Masters night next Thursday evening April 14. The Master Mason degree will be conferred with Ralph Kring, master in 1924, as committee chair. A large county crowd is expected for the notable Coquille valley Masonic event. Refreshments will be handled by the Eastern Stars of Myrtle Point. Members are urged to attend.
Governor Charles M. Martin joins the gubernatorial contest at the last minute, described as a strong public servant who backed his opinions and convictions for Gregen's betterment.

C C Parrott and Dortha Marshall received a license in Camas Valley and Silverton respectively.

A Mountain States Power driver found heavy smoke pouring from the middle of a truck on Spruce street Wednesday. Investigators say a fire of unknown origin started in material at the center of the vehicle during its trip from Ullle to Myrtle Point, with near damage reported at the five miles marker.
The Big Pond a three act comedy by Middleton and Thomas is chosen as the senior play to be presented Thursday May 5 at Union High School. The plot follows a young heiress abroad who falls for a titled but cash-poor nobleman and the father’s attempt to test him with a business position. The Veterans of Foreign Wars announce an opening dance in their hall on Saturday evening April 8. Music will be provided by Earls Five Swing Kings, hailed as the region’s premier swing band from southern Oregon.
At Floyds Cafe Dr R H Mast spoke on the hospital and led a tour of the facility during a Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce gathering. The group formed a central committee Walece Dement chair Edgar Rickard Elton Schroeder and William Gurney to guide an I Buy At Home Campaign and a residential community pamphlet project. Additional committees were named to promote air projects and local issues including employment taxes schools trees and wildlife while Jess Byers and his wife are slated for a puppet show on April 18.
City police report April 4 arrest of Dutch Manon on disorderly conduct charges. He was fined 18 dollars and his license was suspended with a separate 3 dollar fine.
Nine girls passed their tenderfoot tests and were officially initiated into the Girl Scout troop tonight. Miss Chere Hartwell led the ceremony with Mrs. Albert Pancoast serving as lieutenant. Afterward cake punch and refreshments were served to guests.
Mrs R H Lawhorn hosted a Sunday afternoon party in McKinley to announce the engagement of her daughter Jessie Lawhorn to Vern Smith of North Bend. The celebration featured gelatin egg centerpieces, a spring bouquet, and assorted desserts with guests from Coquille Langlois Bandon and Fairview.
The Townsend club met last Sunday April 3 with president H M MacLean presiding. The session opened as usual and several business items were addressed. Mr and Mrs E C Arnot of North Bend and Gus Bender from the local club sang. Otto Ziebarth from Shuck Mountain highway attended and joined by transfer from Yoncalla Douglas county club. A A Baler of the local club assisted with arrangements.
A petition for the adoption of Robert Theo Davis, a miner, was filed March 30 by George Matg of Coquille. Probate cases show a realty value of 98,000 and additional assets valued at 108.
Mrs Nellie Ray was summoned to Portland by liners of her daughter Mrs Mood Eckley. Eckley had just recovered from a hospital stay and was being driven home when a collision occurred. Eckley sustained head lacerations and facial injuries requiring stitches, a broken jaw, and tooth loss, necessitating readmission to the hospital.
