Weather blamed for meat price rise says OSU economist

Oregon State University extension economist Stephen C. Marks links last year’s adverse weather and ongoing inflation to higher meat prices. He cites US harvesting delays, grain shortages, hay quality drops, and a December cattle loss in the Texas Colorado Kansas region as factors lowering supply and pushing costs up. He notes weak cattle counts in Oregon and warns inflation and feed costs impact producers despite higher retail prices.
