New Schedule Implemented on Local Southern Pacific Line

A new timetable on the Southern Pacific local between Powers and Marshfield took effect last Sunday. The turnaround no longer reaches Myrtle Point, now terminating at Coquille. Train No 2 departs Marshfield at 7 30 a m reaching Coquille at 8 30. No 1 leaves Coquille at 8 45 arriving Marshfield 9 38, then No 4 departs at 10 45 reaching Myrtle Point 12 25 and Powers 1 40. No 3 arrives Myrtle Point 3 18 and Marshfield 7 58.

Fire at North Bend believed incendiary origin

In North Bend Oregon a rooming house and toy theater fire Saturday night caused about 9000 dollars in damage. Investigators suspect incendiary origin from barrels of trash near a wall. Residents evacuated calmly, with trunks hurled from windows to save belongings as the fire neared the block, and little insurance was carried.

Coquille Area Corn Contest Exhibits and Prizes

The UILLE VALLEY DISTRICT invites corns growers in the Coquille basin to submit exhibits for a corn contest judged by an Oregon Agricultural College official. Exhibit A awards Best 10 Ears of Mature Corn with prizes including 10 in gold and a 88-piece set. other prizes include shoes, Kodak, seed corn, and cow stand aids.

Farmers' Exchange Sales Day closes season at Myrtle Point

The 1915 season ends with the last Sales Day at Myrtle Point. Despite a bearish year, the monthly events helped farmers sell unneeded stock and goods. Some items remained unsold including a light-second hand wagon and household furniture. buyers are advised to contact M. J. Krantz of Dora for shooting supplies.

Cotton Prices Rise and Fire Destroys Oregon Warehouses

The article notes cotton above 100 cents and near 11 cents per pound with forecasts to 15 cents by March. Land fraud case nets 6th arrest in California sweep

San Francisco report states Elmer E. Patten was arrested in Eureka under a blanket indictment charging 18 attorneys and land agents with fraudulently using the mails. Indictments accuse them of coaxing clients to file timber land claims along the Southern Pacific in Oregon.

Pig Raising Project Adds New Specialist in Oregon

The Agricultural College Extension division and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will cooperate in a new pig raising program at Oregon State with L. Allen named as appointee. Allen, from the State Agricultural College, has livestock production experience and will work under Extension Director R. D. Hetzel with the State Department of Education. The effort aims to boost pork production and grow club membership beyond last year’s 282.

North Bend plan details three day carnival starting Thursday October 27 with band concerts street parade and contests. Friday features auto race boxing and a masked carnival with prizes and a large parade led by Carnival Queen. Fire loss in Oregon timber is very low

Salem Oregon September 25 Unless bad fires should occur in the next soups of weeks the total loss of timber through forest fires for the season will not exceed 15000 according to the State Forestry Department heaviest losses occurred in Wallowa and Union counties As the season is regarded as practically closed the department has withdrawn approximately two thirds of the men from all counties save Jackson and Josephine In these two counties the forests are still dry and a full crew is maintained In the rest of the counties only lookouts and a few patrolmen are still on duty
