Coos Bay Wagon Road Stage Wreck Kills Narrow Escape
Harold Briggs drove a stage on the Coos Bay Wagon Road that went off the grade near Rocky Point last Friday. A fresh slide filled half the roadway and the team panicked as dirt crept, sending the outfit 30 feet into a canyon. Passengers included Mrs. Carter, Miss Edith Mathews, and C. L. Leathermann with a stranger. Mathews suffered a broken arm and facial injuries, Mrs. Carter ribs were broken. Dr. Johnson and Don Snyder rushed to treat them at a temporary hospital set up in the road camp cook house.
