Water permits issued for irrigation and small projects

During the last quarter the state engineer issued 150 water permits for appropriation. Eleven permits target reservoir construction and irrigation on 18 690 acres with 21 716 horsepower and municipal use. Projected cost for works totals about 2 300 000 dollars, 550 000 for reservoirs. Lawhorn and Baker Pair Married in Myrtle Point Region

Lawhorn Ratliff H Lawhorn of McKinley and Beatrice Baker of Lee wed last Tuesday evening October 28 1913 at the residence of Rev Thos Barklow. Groom is son of Lawson Lawhorn and bride daughter of Dave Baker both North Fork residents with many friends in Myrtle Point who wish them happiness as they settle near McKinley.

Property Owners Push for East Town Street Improvements

A hillside district east of town near Railroad avenue sees property owners pressing for street upgrades. Plans may advance while winter cools, with meetings planned to discuss grading tweaks, financing options including ten year bonds, and district scope covering Spruce Maple and adjacent streets.

City worker heads to North Bend for new job

Chris Lehnherr has worked in the city most of this summer cleaning streets and left Tuesday for North Bend to seek new employment opportunities.

Myrtle Point Girl Wins Honors at U. of O.

Myri Mc Closkey Martha Been Emma Wooten Catherine Carson Margaret Pratt Constatiee Cartwright and Catherine Cogewell were selected from forty two candidates after dramatic tryouts in Eugene on October 21. Judges included Alfred Sker and A T Reddie with Mary Perkins and Francis Curtis. Manager Walter Dimm called it the best and largest tryout the Dramatic Club has had. Plans for a play were to be discussed at the next meeting.

Chandler and Northup marry in Myrtle Point region home

The marriage of Arthur A. Chandler and Nettie E. Northup took place Tuesday morning October 28 1913 at the bride's mother's house with Rev. Thos Barklow officiating. The couple left for the groom's homestead in Gurry County to begin housekeeping, as many friends offered best wishes.

Whittington Child Dies Aged Four In South Fork

Little Ildi Agnes Whittington daughter of Mr and Mrs Wert Whittington of South Fork died last Thursday October 23 aged 4 years 2 months 10 days after a long illness. Funeral services by Rev Thos Barklow were held at the home and interment followed at the Whittington cemetery.

Mayor C E Jordan of Eastside died by drowning after leaving a note saying his body would be found in the bay The coroner's jury ruled the drowning prem editated by his own choice He had faced fallout from a 3000 theft of city funds and was described as a conscientious man with thirty years in the community

Eastside resident long employed at Dean & Cos mill dies

The obituary notes a Coos Bay pioneer widow Mrs. Dunbar survives the man who had lived on Eastside. He worked at Dean and Cos mill in Marshfield for many years and earned income from his home and several thousand dollars in interest. He left several children from Mrs. Dunbar's first marriage.

Workmen started Monday on a brick veneer one story store for Spencer and Shelley. The building will cover the corner lot at Spruce street 50 by 95 feet with a 50 by 70 feet store room and 50 by 25 feet ware room. It features a glass front and skylight, with plans for possible second story and occupancy by January first.
